Between Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End and spin-off Uncharted: The Lost Legacy, many fans of the adventure series might be forgiven for thinking that this might be the end of the Uncharted franchise as a whole. According to developer Naughty Dog, there may well be more games in the series in the future.
The news comes courtesy of a new interview with Shaun Escayg, the creative director and writer of Uncharted: The Lost Legacy. Speaking with Eurogamer, the topic of the future of the Uncharted franchise came up, and it made good reading for those hoping for more games in the series. When asked if The Lost Legacy would be the end of the main Uncharted characters’ stories, Escayg stated “I wouldn’t say it’s the end. This thieving world is huge. There’s so many characters.”
Indeed, it turns out that Naughty Dog had a number of ideas in mind before deciding on that of The Lost Legacy. “Even before we settled on this particular story we were exploring Sullivan, we were exploring Cutter, and pairing each other up, thinking what would be right, what would have conflict, growth, something new, something fresh. And Chloe was the one that kept jumping out,” said Escayg. “But to say the Uncharted world is done… I doubt that highly.”
The news will definitely please long-term fans of the series, and should The Lost Legacy fare well then it’s likely there will be more Uncharted games on the horizon. After all, the idea for The Lost Legacy first appeared while Naughty Dog was considering Uncharted 5, so it’s good to know that there is still appetite for more at the developer.
E3 2017 proved to be an excellent treasure trove for those looking for more Uncharted : The Lost Legacy news. Not only did Naughty Dog release a new trailer for the title, but it also unveiled a 10 minute The Lost Legacy gameplay video to showcase exactly what gamers can expect when the project sees release this August.
Indeed, fans now do not have long to wait to find out exactly how well Naughty Dog has emulated the feel of Uncharted with a different set of playable characters. So far, though, The Lost Legacy seems to be shaping up well, and should it prove to be a success there’s likely to be more fun extras such as the Easter eggs hidden in Crash Bandicoot on the way.
Uncharted: The Lost Legacy is set to release for PlayStation 4 on August 22, 2017, and August 23, 2017 for European players.
