Uncharted: The Nathan Drake Collection Debuts 60FPS Gameplay Footage

By | 1 year ago

PlayStation 4 owners were understandably upset when Sony announced the plan to delay Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End to 2016, as it has left a considerable holiday gap of exclusives for the system over the next few months. To help fill the void, however, Sony is giving fans of the franchise the chance to relive the original trilogy in the form of Uncharted: The Nathan Drake Collection.

Uncharted: The Nathan Drake Collection is looking to do the original releases of the games justice, as it is bringing to the table improved visuals, new game modes, and more. The latest footage for the game showcases a sequence from Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune and shows off the collection’s improvements in action, all at 60FPS.

The scene in question begins with protagonist Nathan Drake locked in a cell. He then makes a daring escape with the aid of partner Elena Fisher, which features Drake firing at enemies using a turret attached to the back of a jeep, as well as darting through waters on a jet-ski.

For the most part, this gameplay footage looks pretty impressive, but Drake’s Fortune is indeed starting to show its age in some areas. The facial animations in particular are very dated compared to its successors, but the 60FPS upgrade should make up for minor issues like that.

Graphical improvements combined with new content should make Uncharted: The Nathan Drake Collection a worthwhile purchase for newcomers of the series as well as seasoned veterans. It may be removing multiplayer from Uncharted 2 and Uncharted 3, but it’s making up for that with the 60FPS gameplay and the inclusion of some brand new game modes, including a Speed Run Mode.

Furthermore, Uncharted: The Nathan Drake Collection will also be adding an additional difficulty setting, called Brutal Mode. If this new content is not enough to sway Uncharted veterans to purchase the games again for their PS4, there is also a demo planned that may help convince them to take the plunge.

For those that want to try the demo before committing to buying the collection, a release date for the demo has recently been announced to go along with this new gameplay footage. Those interested in playing the demo should mark their calendars for September 29th. The demo will feature the Nepal Warzone level from Uncharted 2: Among Thieves for players to try ahead of the game’s release, and should offer a good idea of how the rest of the collection will play.
