There was a point in Uncharted 4: A Thief's End's development schedule when the game was set to release in late 2015. It wasn't a definitive date, but one that fans of the Naughty Dog series could get excited for. Of course, as is the case with a lot of big, AAA games, it was delayed to 2016, with the game's directors - Bruce Straley and Neil Druckmann - explaining that "it’s become clear to us that this game is much more ambitious than we originally envisioned.”

Not too long afterwards, Sony president Andrew House revealed that Uncharted 4 would release within the first half of next year, specifically before April 2016. This bit of information isn't much to go on when it comes to a solid launch date, but when combined with today's rumor, it makes things seem a little more believable.

A user on Reddit (via Game Informer) recently received an email from Amazon Germany telling him that Nathan Drake's upcoming adventure is set to release on March 9, 2016. To back up his story, he also provided the aforementioned email, which does, in fact, contain a "09 März 2016."

The gut reaction would usually be to dismiss this entirely until either Naughty Dog or Sony make an official announcement, but there's the part where the game is supposed to release before next April. In addition to that, March 9 isn't your typical placeholder date - it's too specific. That said, March 9 could simply be the date the game comes out in Germany, while other regions could get it at a sooner (or later) time.

The most logical time for Naughty Dog to announce a release date would be during the PlayStation Experience, which Sony just renewed for a second year. It'll take place in San Francisco this year on December 5 and 6, and is sure to be filled with big reveals. Or, as Sony puts it, "some of those patented PlayStation surprises you’ve come to expect."

Unveiling Uncharted 4's launch date would allow for nearly three months of constant marketing.

Regardless of what Uncharted 4: A Thief's End's release date is, though, it's still set to come out next year, exclusively to the PS4. Several trailers have been released since E3 2015 that show off the main campaign (including the extended E3 demo) but soon people will be able to take part in the multiplayer beta, provided they buy Uncharted: The Nathan Drake Collection, which is due out this October.

What do you think? Should we put our faith in this March 9, release date?
