With more games looking to deliver as immersive and breathtaking of an experience as possible, some players have decided to take it into their own hands to make their favorite titles run at the highest performances they can. However, as one modder has found with a recent mod for Uncharted 4 bringing Naughty Dog's cinematic series to the heights of 60 FPS comes with some significant highs and lows.

Modder Illusion0001 has made some big news in the modding community before, including a recent patch that had been developed to fix an old glitch in The Last of Us: Remastered. So, this isn't the first time that the modder has messed around inside of a Naughty Dog title, this time moving from the cinematic zombie game to the cinematic adventure one.

This new mod by Illusion0001 boast the ability to run Uncharted 4 at 60 FPS by essentially uncapping the framerate and decreasing the resolution until the performance levels out. The result on a base PS4 is unfortunately only able to run at roughly 540p for most cutscenes and combat encounters, though there are times when even this resolution is too much for the system to handle. However, some higher resolutions have been achievable at 60 FPS with more advanced hardware, with a PS4 Pro reportedly being able to reach all the way up to 720p for specific scenes.

At the moment, Illusion0001 has posted the mod to be used by anyone with a PS4 or PS5 that has been set up to run unassigned code, so other modders can start testing the perfect resolution balance to see everything Uncharted 4 has to offer. With the mod being available on PS5, this could mean that the more powerful hardware might be able to run some scenes at higher rates than the PS4 Pro. While it's unlikely that players will be able to get 4K running at 60 FPS, there is still a good chance that the PS5 could maintain 1080p for large portions of the game.

Considering the cinematic quality Uncharted has always strived for, upping the framerate is a strange modification to make to one of the games in this series. Films aren't exactly enhanced by a higher framerate in the same way that a game is, which could hinder the cutscenes that have been made with that type of quality in mind. That being said, in-game combat and motion through the set pieces look incredible at the higher framerate, making the mod worth the trouble on that end.

Uncharted 4 is available now for PS4 and PS5.
