The Uncharted series has always been about putting the player in the driver’s seat of each and every thrilling sequence, and Uncharted 3 will be no different. What will be different this time around is that Naughty Dog is using stereoscopic 3D to make the experience that much more immersive.

As part of a GDC presentation, Naughty Dog, still wanting to keep many of its more important cards unplayed, decided to give a hands-on demo of the same chateau level gamers have seen before, but this time the sequence played out in 3D. Among the key advantages to utilizing 3D, as pointed out by Naughty Dog, are allowing the gamer to achieve more precise aiming around corners and giving them a much needed sense of depth during Uncharted’s signature traversal areas.

While many might be quick to write off the addition of 3D to Uncharted 3 as a gimmicky and unnecessary add-on, Naughty Dog, based on their enthusiasm for 3D, thinks the tech and Uncharted are a perfect fit.

On top of revealing that Uncharted 3 will be available in 3D, Naughty Dog also unveiled the villain for Drake’s Deception, Katherine Marlowe, along with concept art that showcase the “desert chic” look of some of the game’s enemies.

Set on a new quest to find the same treasure previously sought by T. E. Lawrence, Nathan Drake will have to brave a new, but equally as harsh, series of elements if he wants to claim his treasure. Let’s just hope he packed plenty of sunscreen.

With each passing month, Naughty Dog has vowed to reveal layer after layer of the puzzle that will eventually become Uncharted 3, but promise to keep the real surprises for gamers' first encounter with the retail version of the game. Not hitting store shelves until November, there is still plenty of time to pick up a 3D TV in order to experience the game in all its multi-dimensional glory.
