At the end of season 2 of Netflix's The Umbrella Academy, the Hargreeves family, and viewers, are given a shadowy glimpse at a group called the Sparrow Academy. The third season will be introducing Justin Cornwell, Britne Oldford, Jake Epstein, Genesis Rodriguez, and Cazzie David as the members of the academy, with Justin H. Min returning as Ben.

Season 2 of The Umbrella Academy ended on a surprise note, when the members of the original Umbrella Academy arrived back from the 1960s to discover this was no longer the future they knew. Their adopted father, Reginald Hargreeves, was still alive and had created a different superhero group called the Sparrow Academy. This group included a different counterpart of their dead brother, Ben, whose ghost had passed on to the other side while they were back in the 60s. The other members were not introduced.

Even at first look, it's clear that this Ben is not the sensitive soul the original Umbrella Academy knew, and the Sparrow Academy cast descriptions call him Machiavellian, vicious, and pragmatic. Justin Cornwell plays Marcus, the new number 1, the leader, described as "charming, chiseled, and colossus." Britne Oldford is Fei, who "sees the world in a special way." Number 4 is Jake Epstein's Alphonso, said to be physically scarred by battles with a biting sense of humour. Genesis Rodriguez is Sloane, described as feeling a higher cosmic calling. Cazzie David will be Jamie, a loner with a fear-inducing snarl. Alongside the human actors is a VFX character, a telekinetic cube billed as "Existential Dread-Inducing Psykronium Cube," and considered number 7, or Christopher.

The third season will see all of the original Umbrella Academy siblings return and figure out how to deal with this new version of reality. While neither Reginald Hargreeves nor Ben seemed happy to see them, fans will have to wait and see how Luther, Diego, Klaus, Allison, Number Five, and Vanya interact with the members of The Sparrow Academy. Also confirmed as returning for the third season are fellow superpowered human Lila and Reginald's chimp assistant, Pogo.

The Umbrella Academy has deviated from its comic source material, so there's a lot of mystery and excitement about how the series could be going forward. When series involve time travel, it opens up even more questions and possibilities. For example, along with the Sparrow Academy, will the Umbrella Academy come across different versions of themselves, in a reality where they were never the Umbrella Academy? It's also unknown whether the Commission, a major player in season 1 and 2, will play a part in season 3.

Season 3 of The Umbrella Academy is set to begin production in February 2021 and will be released on Netflix.
