The video game publisher and developer Capcom officially unveils the release date for Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3 on PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One platforms.

Ever since Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite was unveiled during last year's PlayStation Experience, fans of the long-running fighting game franchise were undoubtedly elated to discover the news of its existence, but the developer has yet to provide an exact launch date beyond the nebulous window of it releasing sometime in late 2017. Nevertheless, Capcom has decided to give fans a chance to tide themselves over until the forthcoming sequel hits the marketplace by revealing new details regarding upcoming versions of Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3.

According to a post on Capcom's blog, the third entry in the fighting game series is set to launch for Xbox One and PC on March 7, with both of these versions being available digitally for $25, which is the same price as the PS4 version that released in December 2016. Additionally, the developer announced that Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3 will receive physical editions for the Xbox One and PS4 on the same date, which are to be released through GameStop for $30 as a "limited edition" that features "updated" cover art, which can be found directly below.

Furthermore, Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3's limited edition through GameStop also includes an exclusive, 10-page comic book that "tells the story of two colliding universes featuring some of the most iconic Marvel and Capcom characters." Both of the Marvel artists Sean Chen and Gerardo Sandoval contributed illustrations and artwork to the story to give it the feel of an actual trade issue comic book.

For those interested in all that Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3's physical "limited edition" offers, they can currently pre-order a copy now through GameStop in the US and EB Games in Canada. Unfortunately, though, neither retailer nor Capcom has provided a clear idea as to how many actual units will be on-hand, so those who wish to receive this specific limited run of Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3 ought to reserve their copies as soon as possible.

Of course, while this is great news for fans of the franchise who game primarily on current generation platforms, it's safe to say that most folks have their eyes set on fresh gameplay with Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite's release. Naturally, though, everyone must wait until later this year before they can experience the game's revamped combat with 2v2 teams, so revisiting Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3 on PC, PS4, and Xbox One should provide enough of a buffer before Infinite officially launches.

Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3 is set to launch digitally on March 7 for PC and Xbox One, with "limited edition" physical copies for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One releasing on the same date at GameStop and EB Games.
