When Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3 was first announced many gamers scoffed at the idea of having to fork over more cash for a chance to play as a few extra characters on eight new levels. Since then, fans of the fighting series have begun to warm up to the idea of Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3 because of its discounted price tag, but more importantly because of the characters that come packaged with the release.
Though we only know of four characters (out of the promised 12) that are going to be added to the Marvel vs. Capcom 3 roster, each should appeal to fans of either Marvel or Capcom properties. To help add to that appeal, and to showcase that these characters carry their own unique fighting styles, four new character vignettes have been released.
Among the qualities that gamers will find most enjoyable about these vignettes is finally getting to see the move set for Firebrand, Ghost Rider, Strider Hiryu, and Hawkeye. Previous vignettes have been a bit longer, and have featured in-depth looks at all of the characters’ hyper combos, but gamers will have to make due with this first look tease.

Some might be able to argue that characters like Hawkeye or Firebrand were not the most desired additions to the Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3 roster, but Strider and Ghost Rider are going to make missing out on this game nigh impossible. We still don’t have a complete picture of the title — what characters made the cut, which didn’t — and gamers might still need some convincing before they agree to a $40 disc-only expansion of a title they most likely already own,
Still, these first four characters are mighty enticing, and carry with them unique play styles and distinct personalities from their respective universes. Capcom will definitely have to deliver more of these vignettes, but this is a solid start.
Which of the four announced characters are you most excited about playing? Do you think that any of these characters’ fighting styles bare a resemblance to any fighter currently in the game?
Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3 releases November 2011 for the PS3 and Xbox 360.
