Anticipation for EA Sports UFC 4 is building and there have been rumors about the game since its announcement. It seems that some rumors about UFC 4 were trustworthy as the game is changing up its features and introducing new fighting mechanics. A notable change in the audio is the commentary and the team behind the game have taken the time to explain why the familiar voice of Joe Rogan will not be in the latest installment of the gaming franchise.

Joe Rogan is one of the main commentators on the roster of the UFC and is a prominent member of the community because of his celebrity status. As a result, many fans enjoy his commentary in the games as it adds to the authenticity of the experience. However, the previous game, UFC 3, uses Joe Rogan's voice by splicing his voice from real commentary and it seems that Joe Rogan and Electronic Arts have parted ways for largely understandable reasons.

The creative director behind UFC 4, Brian Hayes, has detailed the situation between Rogan and the franchise, "He hasn't been shy about saying this on his own podcast; like, he hates doing it." While this isn't the greatest foundation for a working relationship Hayes unpacked the statement and it seems that both sides have made the best of the situation, "He was open with us from the very beginning that he hated his experience of doing voiceover on previous iterations of other UFC games, and things were no different for us." Finally, the director concluded, "He hated doing voiceover on these games as well. That has nothing to do with us in particular, or, you know, our games versus other games. He just does not like sitting in a booth reading lines for hours at a time."

While some fans may be disappointed it seems that Rogan was not eager to do the work and was publically negative about the experience. Combined with the efforts the team must have gone to in order to include his voice in the last game, it seems that this is a natural conclusion to the working relationship going into UFC 4.

Joe Rogan and EA part ways

Instead of Rogan, EA Sports UFC 4 has found some experienced replacements. Former light heavyweight and heavyweight champion Daniel "DC" Cormier will take on the role alongside familiar commentator Jon Anik. It will be interesting to see what fans make of the changes that are being made to the franchise and while many wanted improvements on UFC 3, the changes in commentary may not have been what some players desired.

Many will be keen to see how EA implements the changes to the UFC franchise and whether it creates a new kind of experience. While significant alterations can backfire, the new features and commentary may allow the game to make a bigger impact on the next generation of consoles.

EA Sports UFC 4 will launch on August 14 for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.
