Clinching in EA Sports UFC 4 is slightly different than it was in the last entry in the series, and indeed veterans of the franchise will need to get used to the new inputs that are required for initiating this move. That said, it is still quite easy to get into a clinch in this new MMA fighting game from EA Sports, which is fortunate considering the important role that it plays in almost every match. For those players that need a bit of assistance with the clinch in UFC 4, that can be found here.

To put things simply, clinches in UFC 4 are initiated by pressing RB + X on Xbox One or R1 + Square on PS4. When executed correctly, a player's fighter will enter a single collar clinch, and they can then transition to other clinch positions by pressing RB + Y on Xbox One or R1 + Triangle on PS4. Then, once a fan has assumed their preferred clinch position, a number of options become available to them, including strikes, submissions, and takedowns.

With respect to strikes, UFC 4 players can throw a variety of uppercuts and knees to the legs simply by using the four face buttons on their controllers while in a clinch. Holding LB/L1 while pressing these buttons changes the aforementioned strikes to hooks and knees to head, and holding LT/L2 with a kick will administer knees to the body. Additionally, fans can use elbows in the clinch with LB + X + A or LB + Y + B on Xbox One and with L1 + Square + X or L1 + Triangle + Circle on PS4.

When it comes to takedowns in UFC 4, there are several that can be performed from clinching. For instance, holding RB + B (Xbox One) or R1 + Circle (PS4) from within a clinch will execute an Ankle Pick, while holding RB + A (Xbox One) or R1 + X (PS4) will administer a Head Lock Hip Toss. Players can also use trips from this position, and that can be done with the following inputs: RB + Up + A and RB + Down + B (Xbox One) | R1 + Up + X and R1 + Down + Circle (PS4).

Finally, some fighters in UFC 4 can perform submission from a clinch, though that is not the case for all of them. Players are thus advised to check the Game Help section from within the Pause Menu to find out more about their fighter's specific submissions and if they can be performed out of this powerful, close-range tactic.
