Much to the surprise of many Ubisoft and Tom Clancy's fans, the studio just announced via Twitter that tomorrow a brand-new game set in the Tom Clancy's universe will be revealed. This was accompanied by a short teaser that doesn't show anything concretely giving away what the game is about, except for some graffiti and a colorful palette that doesn't seem to fit a darker tone. Ever since the tweet, fans have been speculating about what this new game could be, and if there was any chance for it to be a sequel to an already existing franchise like Splinter Cell.

The last Splinter Cell game was released back in 2013, and while there have been a few mentions of the franchise in recent times, nothing official ever came about a potential reboot. Reboots and remakes are all the rage nowadays thanks to the performance and graphics of next-gen consoles, and thus it would only make sense for Ubisoft to release a new Splinter Cell game at some point. However, Ubisoft's tweet doesn't leave much room for that kind of thought because of how it is worded, with an emphasis on "brand-new game in the Tom Clancy's universe" likely indicating that this is going to be a new project instead.

Ubisoft's New Tom Clancy's Game

The Ubisoft tweet was not the only thing to come today for this new upcoming reveal, as a short gameplay video has made its way to Twitter as well. Based on this video, the new Tom Clancy's title seems to be a first-person shooter where players gain experience based on the type of kills or streaks they get. It's not entirely clear if it is going to be a purely PvP game, or if it will have multiplayer and PvE as well. There are a few key details to note that could give away what this game may be.

First of all, it does seem to have battle royale vibes and gameplay similar to other popular games in the genre like Apex Legends and Fortnite. Some fans speculate otherwise because Ubisoft has dabbled in battle royales with Hyper Scape, which was released only about a year ago. It still doesn't completely rule out the possibility that Ubisoft learned a few key lessons with Hyper Scape and applied them to a new project, regardless of how soon it may be since the studio's battle royale came out.

A more likely possibility is that this new game set in the Tom Clancy's universe could be throwing a few key locations and characters from different games together to make something unique. A few observant players suggest that the area showcased in the short gameplay footage is The Division's version of New York, but that doesn't mean this is going to be The Division: Heartland precisely because of its setting. It could be another leaked title from Ubisoft, the so-called BattleCat.

BattleCat is supposed to be a mash-up of different Tom Clancy's games, which include The Division, Endwar, Splinter Cell, HAWX, Rainbow Six, and Ghost Recon. Overall, the premise sounds like a somewhat refreshing take on the usual Tom Clancy's games, but players will have to wait and see if this is what they can expect from tomorrow's reveal.

Ubisoft will reveal a new Tom Clancy's game on July 19, 2021.
