It’s been nearly a year since it was announced that the new Lucasfilm Games label will be collaborating with multiple publishers to create Star Wars games, and slowly but surely, the franchise’s future post-EA exclusivity is starting to take shape. Fans were recently treated to the announcement of Quantic Dream’s Star Wars: Eclipse, and, while nowhere near as meaty, they now have a new morsel of information pertaining to what they can look forward to from Ubisoft’s open-world Star Wars game.

In development at Massive Entertainment, the developer behind the Division series, the currently-untitled game was among the first projects announced as part of the Lucasfilm Games initiative. For the most part, all that’s been confirmed about it so far is that it will be powered by the Snowdrop engine used for the Division games, but job listings from Ubisoft have teased some additional details, like a heavy emphasis on story.

Now a new listing has hinted at another previously-unknown aspect of the open-world Star Wars game: vehicles. Ubisoft Bucharest, one of the studios helping Massive out with development, is hiring a Senior Vehicle Artist to work on the project. This is not too surprising, considering how common vehicles are in open-world games, but what might catch people’s attention is the fact that prospective artists will be tasked with aiding in the creation of “both authentic and fictional vehicles.”

The wording here is a bit strange. At first glance, the separation of “authentic” and “fictional” in regards to the imaginary world of Star Wars could be read as Ubisoft’s game including real-world vehicles in addition to the franchise’s more fantastical crafts. But what it probably means is that the game will feature brand new original vehicles designed by the developers in addition to already-established ones. Star Wars is home to several of the most iconic vehicles in all of media, and new entries in the franchise tend to add a few of their own, like The Mandalorian’s Razor Crest, so it’s hardly a stretch to imagine that fans will be able to travel around in crafts both old and new.

It’s still early days for Ubisoft’s Star Wars game, and given the scale of the project, it’s likely that it will be a while before concrete details begin to emerge. The past year has seen a few rumors pointing to a few possibilities, such as the game being based on The Mandalorian, but until Ubisoft officially says something, fans can only speculate for the time being about where the publisher’s adventure in the galaxy far, far away will take them.
