It's been a busy few weeks for Ubisoft after launching Watch Dogs Legion late in October, the company shifted gears to then launch what many fans would consider its most anticipated title just a couple weeks later. Assassin's Creed Valhalla moved its release date up a week to be right in the center of the next-gen console launches with the Xbox Series X and PS5 a couple days later. While the game has been receiving plenty of praise from fans and critics, the PC version is strangely missing one traditionally core feature.

After combining the Uplay and Ubisoft Club services into Ubisoft Connect, the change has also seemingly impacted achievements for PC players. After Assassin's Creed Valhalla launched, PC players immediately noticed that the game was missing an achievements tab like previously released Ubisoft games. Numerous threads started appearing across Reddit about the discovery, with some fans theorizing that the decision was related to the Epic Games Store, which until just recently, did support achievements either.

However, Ubisoft has recently come out to confirm that the change was intentional and is something they'll be doing for all future releases as well. Instead of traditional achievements, which typically act more as badges of honor for players, Ubisoft has instead attempted to place the focus on challenges through Ubisoft Connect. Similar to achievements, Ubisoft Challenges task players with completing a certain in-game action in exchange to XP and rewards specific to that title.

Understandably, fans are still quite upset over the change and the move to challenges. Reaction to the announcement has been negative which most fans expressing anger and threatening to refund their games. Ubisoft offers a 14 day refund policy on their PC games, so it's entirely possible that at least a few will go through with the threat. While Ubisoft hasn't provided an explanation as to why the company decided to simply remove achievements altogether in favor of challenges, it doesn't appear like it plans to go back any time soon.

The developer behind Assassin's Creed Valhalla, Ubisoft Montreal, experienced a scary situation this week as reports began appearing online of a hostage situation taking place at the Montreal-based headquarters. Police were called to the scene to lock down the area and Ubisoft employees who were at the studio flocked to the studio's rooftops. After a number of hours, Montreal Police concluded their search and found no on-site threats. While the situation was certainly strange, many have begun to theorize that the studio was the victim of misinformation or perhaps swatting from an unhappy customer.

Assassin's Creed Valhalla is available now on PC, PS4, PS5, Stadia, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X.
