With the Christmas shopping season - and those lucrative holiday sales - right around the corner, publishers typically drop their biggest video games in the autumn, and Ubisoft is no exception. This year, Ubisoft hopes that gamers will fall in love with practically all of its big franchises all over again, and the company plans to release both Assassin's Creed Syndicate and Rainbow Six Siege within a week of each other during October.

Rainbow Six Siege focuses on elite teams of Special Forces units stationed around the globe, with squad-based action that tasks players with rescuing hostages and ttaking out some of the world's most nefarious terrorists. Ever since Rainbow Six Siege's first gameplay trailer was released during last year's E3, Ubisoft's kept gamers updated as to what they should expect from the upcoming first-person shooter. The publisher hasn't slacked off as the game's release date nears, either; just a few weeks after Rainbow Six Siege's big E3 demonstration, a new trailer has arrived that highlights the game's GIGN Unit.

The GIGN Unit is the crème de la crème of French counter-terrorism squads. Much like previous Rainbow Six releases, each of team member has particular specialty; working together is paramount in the team's success. Emmanuelle Pichon - appropriately nicknamed "Twitch"- maneuvers a remote-controlled shock drone to distract enemies or take out hostile devices, while Gilles Toure, also known as "Montagne", takes point while wielding a shield that protects soldiers from small firearm and close-combat attacks. Similar to Team Fortress 2's Medic, Gustave "Doc" Kateb has a pistol that shoots stimpaks that heal downed teammates. If extra defense is necessary, Julien "Rook" Nizan provides additional armor for everyone.

With balanced gameplay and fully destructable environments, Rainbow Six Siege could become Ubisoft's best selling shooter, especially if the exciting features and smooth visuals featured in the trailer are any indicative of further surprises that Ubisoft has in store. When Rainbow Six Siege was discussed during Ubisoft's E3 2015 press conference, fans of the Tom Clancy-inspired series were pleasantly relieved to find out that the strategy-based FPS would be bringing back the classic Terrohunt game mode; that's probably not going to be the last big reveal that Ubisoft drops before release, either.

If gamers are impressed with what they've seen from Ubisoft's shooter thus far, Ubisoft also announced that a Rainbow Six Siege collector's edition will be available, which contains a Season Pass that unlocks all future DLC. Either way, fans of the series' team-based gameplay and close-quarters combat should have a lot to look forward to when Rainbow Six Siege drops later this year.

Rainbow Six Siege is set for release on October 13, 2015 for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC.
