It's that time of the year when the biggest names in video games set out their plans for the next year and beyond. Most recently, Ubisoft was in on the action, with the publisher revealing that financial year 2018-2019 will see the release of four AAA games, including a new intellectual property.
The news comes courtesy of Ubisoft itself, through its earnings report for the financial year. As well as setting out both its successes of the year just gone and its immediate plans for the future, the publisher was keen to share a little about what 2018-2019 has in store. Ubisoft confirmed that the financial year will see "the release of four AAA titles with three established franchises and a new brand."
Exactly what this brand new intellectual property will be remains to be seen, but Ubisoft has been able to deliver a brief breakdown of sorts. During a conference call relating to the earnings report, the publisher confirmed that the game would be a multiplayer-focused game. This would keep the theme in line with other recent Ubisoft releases, including the recent new property of For Honor.
This was far from the only news revealed by Ubisoft as part of the earnings report. The publisher was also willing to share a little of what it has planned for the rest of this financial year, in particular with regards to its AAA line-up. Ubisoft confirmed that its line-up is still set to include Assassin's Creed, Far Cry, The Crew, and South Park.
Although further news on those titles will no doubt be shared through official sources soon, that is unlikely to stop the speculation that has spread around some of those high-profile releases. For starters, many have been wondering exactly what form the next Far Cry title will take, with some suggesting that Far Cry 5 will take on a Western theme with view to a September release.
With regards to the new intellectual property, there will hopefully be some more solid details released soon. After all, with E3 2017 just around the corner, that could certainly be a good time for Ubisoft to unveil a little more of this mysterious project.
