Multiple Assassin's Creed fans and news sources are slowly figuring out the setting of the next game. As the latest entry in the franchise, Assassin's Creed Valhalla, hit shelves back in late 2020, Ubisoft seem ready for another title to join the list of games. While some believe that the confirmed live-service game Assassin's Creed Infinity would be the newest game, it was reported by Ubisoft that the title featuring multiple settings was a few years away at least.

Assassin's Creed Rift then, if rumors are to be believed, could be the game releasing in between Valhalla and Infinity. Details have been leaking about Assassin's Creed Rift since the codename title for the game was first discovered. Allegedly, the game was initially supposed to be an Assassin's Creed Valhalla expansion, though this was then changed so that Rift could be its own game. Assassin's Creed Rift will feature Basim from Assassin's Creed Valhalla, and the setting is reportedly Baghdad.

So far, there have been no official confirmations by Ubisoft of Assassin's Creed Rift's existence. Yet, in a recent financial results call, an analyst asked Ubisoft's CEO about the existence of a smaller Assassin's Creed game being the next release for the franchise. The analyst did not mention Rift by its codename, but Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot did in his response. ""As to your question related to Rift, I think what we can say here is that we won't comment further on the rumor," Guillemot said. "We have a very strong roadmap on the AC franchise for years to come, with very meaningful content coming every year."

Assassin's Creed Rift rumours, release date and more

By refusing to speak on the rumor, but mentioning the rumor by name, the Ubisoft boss has sparked discussion around Assassin's Creed Rift once again. As more details emerge about the new title, gamers are getting a better picture of what the game will look like, and it seems that only a direct confirmation that Assassin's Creed Rift is not coming would stop people from thinking that it is on its way.

It seems as well, that Assassin's Creed Rift may be ditching the new Assassin's Creed formula set in Valhalla, Origins, and Odyssey. While those games had RPG elements focused in an expansive open world, Rift reportedly will focus more on stealth mechanics in a smaller map, calling back to the older entries of the series. While this could be a welcome change for many fans, just returning to old tricks may not be enough to make Assassin's Creed Rift unique.

Assassin’s Creed Rift is reportedly in development.
