The 2D action-adventure sandbox game Terraria was initially released for Windows PC in 2011, though its developer soon ported it to every other major platform. After ten years, one might expect that developer to have already expanded it as much as possible. However, Terraria still has some key room to grow.

The recent addition of the “Deerclops” demonstrates that developers arent finished adding new content for Terraria. It also leaves only two biomes without bosses of their own, causing fans to wonder what developers might add to fill those vacant slots.

Recently, Terraria began its crossover event with fellow 2D survival game Don’t Starve Together. Part of that crossover is the addition of the Deerclops to the former game’s snow biome. As Reddit user Mister_crabs pointed out, that only leaves the Desert and Space biomes lacking an associated boss enemy. This led to speculation about what the next new boss might be, assuming that developer Re-Logic plans to keep adding to the game.

The most upvoted suggestion was a boss version of Terraria’s Antlion enemy. These insectoid creatures are common in the game’s desert environments, making it a plausible guess. An Antlion boss would also fit with the ongoing Don’t Starve Together crossover, as a similar enemy appears in that game. That suggestion also led to several comments half-jokingly referencing the similarly-named creatures from Valve’s Half-Life 2. It’s worth noting that Terraria already has Portal’s Companion Cube, so it is not as unlikely an addition as it sounds.

Other commenters suggested a Dune-inspired giant worm or a boss inspired by the bug-like demon Duriel from Diablo 2. Another commenter suggested a giant sphynx with a sandstorm attack. As for the Space Biome, one comment suggested resurrecting Terraria’s cut Falling Planet boss, while the idea of an alien mothership also gained some traction. Other space suggestions include a giant bird or a boss version of Terraria’s spaceborne Wyvern enemies.

terraria new boss

Of course, it’s an open question if the game is even getting any new bosses. Terraria’s final major update was supposed to be the aptly named Journey’s End, released in May 2020. However, the Don’t Starve crossover shows that Re-Logic is by no means done with Terraria.

So, while the developer has not announced any new bosses, it’s not impossible that Terraria fans might be getting more new content soon. It may even be likely, assuming that the studio is open to more crossovers between Terraria and other games. But, for now, fans will have to make do with the years of content updates already included.

Terraria is available now on Android, iOS, PC, PS3, PS4, PS5, PS Vita, Nintendo DS, Nintendo Switch, Wii U, Stadia, Xbox 360, and Xbox One.
