Twitch streamer Sweet Anita has gained a sizable following on the streaming platform as well as YouTube. One well-known characteristic of Sweet Anita's Twitch streams is her Tourette's syndrome, where her tics cause her to say potentially offensive things. Recently, Sweet Anita said "kill the Jews," during one of her tics, and that caused a controversy where some people were calling for Twitch to ban the streamer.

On social media, various people have called for Twitch to ban Sweet Anita because of her Tourette's syndrome tics, including the comment about Jews as well as for using the N word. This included fellow Twitch streamer lilchiipmunk, who said, "How's this allowed I don't care if she has Tourettes she should have some way to mute herself or something!!!" in a since-deleted tweet. lilchiipmunk has apologized to Sweet Anita for the tweet criticizing her Tourette's syndrome.

In another tweet, Sweet Anita reminded fans that her Tourette's syndrome will likely cause her to use this language in the future. "[...] the more people pressure me not to say it, the more my condition latches on to the phrase. It never used to be a tic before twitch, but chat has been intentionally triggering it."

While there were people who were calling on Twitch to ban Sweet Anita, there were many others who spoke out in defense of the streamer. Twitch itself appears to be well aware of Sweet Anita's condition, and so it's not surprising that the streaming platform didn't take action against her. It's not like Sweet Anita is saying offensive things for the fun of saying offensive things; she literally can't help it, and to ban her from Twitch for her tics would likely be seen as ableist.

Moving forward, it will be interesting to see if Twitch releases an official statement clarifying that Sweet Anita's tics don't violate community guidelines. Twitch's inconsistency with enforcing its policies has been a source of criticism for the streaming site, and while most people understand why Sweet Anita is a special case, there are clearly those who don't. It may prevent future controversies like this if Twitch released a statement, but that remains to be seen.
