The downside of being a high-profile online personality is having to go through the extra steps of protecting accounts. Even with the best VPNs, two-factor authentication, and other security measures, bad actors may gain access to an influencer's account and use it for nefarious reasons. Former Overwatch League player Super recently found himself in the middle of this unfortunate scenario as he claims his YouTube Channel has been hacked.

Super appealed to YouTube and his audience for help in getting control of his YouTube Channel after it was hacked and began having videos of fake Elon Musk crypto scams posted on it. The entity renamed Super's channel "Ark Invest," which is a real cryptocurrency company. However, the company's name has been used as part of a months-long wave of other YouTube channels and has denounced the hackers that are using its name.

Super is sure that he had 2-factor authentication enabled since 2015. Since he's a part of a larger wave of hacks, there appears to be some sort of exploit on YouTube's end. The hackers suddenly announced their unwanted presence by live streaming a cryptocurrency scam video on loop. After some time, that stream ended but was replaced with other scam videos. The hackers also unlisted videos, essentially scrubbing the channel of its previous owner. Thankfully, Super managed to regain control of his accounts and restored videos that were unlisted the next day right before the Overwatch League started its 5th Season using the Overwatch 2 PvP Beta.

Though Super prioritizes Twitch now, he still maintains the YouTube Channel that he created while he was still in the Overwatch League as part of the league's deal with YouTube Gaming. Stream VODs, gameplay clips, and opinion videos would be uploaded to the channel as a hub for his content while he streams on Twitch. Losing access to one of his accounts and revenue streams is a stressful ordeal that he thankfully rectified fairly quickly.

The popularity of making money off of cryptocurrency has brought out some of the worst in internet culture. Stories about scammers and hackers are constantly in the news in between the highs and lows in the crypto and NFT markets. The lengths some take to make money leave a bad taste in the mouths of those that are on the sidelines that may or may not be interested in investments. Attacking popular streamers further adds to the sketchy environment in the digital currency world.
