Almost exactly one year ago, on March 18, 2020, Twitch streamer Kaceytron was banned indefinitely from the streaming platform after making a joke about the coronavirus pandemic that was deemed to be in poor taste. Stating that the world would be a better place without old and poor people, the content creator joked that she would leave lockdown and try to spread the virus as much as possible.

Whether Kaceytron deserved a ban for making the joke is up for debate, but in the end it didn’t matter. Dr Disrepect’s unexpected ban from Twitch notwithstanding, the platform is known for not consistently enforcing suspensions and bans for its more popular streamers, and Kaceytron was back livestreaming on the platform by March 27.

The well-known Twitch personality now finds herself once again in hot water, as Kaceytron is being accused of saying a racial slur while singing along to a song in a Halloween broadcast in 2020. The streamer has responded on Twitter, claiming that while it might sound like she’s saying a racial slur, that is in fact not the case.

Kaceytron contends in her tweet that the song she was singing along with is Tech9’s “Hood Go Crazy” and the lyrics in question are, “Kansas City natives and we’re all a little kookoo.” The streamer asks, “Why would I say it when it’s not even the word?” She then goes on to point out that she was wearing a mask while singing, making it even more difficult to accurately discern what was said.

The streamer, perhaps wondering why the event has been brought into the spotlight now, also calls attention to the fact that the stream happened in 2020. To further support her claim that she did not say a racial slur at the time in question, Kaceytron posted the VOD of the incident as well. She notes that even during the stream, people had begun calling her out for her language and the content creator spent the next three hours defending herself before finally stopping the stream because “I was so upset.”

The irony is that during the stream when the alleged incident took place, Kaceytron had in fact been apologizing for times in the past when she had actually used racial slurs. Many people in the Twitter thread accused the streamer of using a different slur during the same stream and using racial slurs in the past. Some have even slowed down the clip from the VOD to prove that she said the slur and, of course, everybody hears something different.

Whether Kaceytron said a racial slur during the October stream, her fans have been vocal in their support of the content creator. And it seems that the incident is uncertain enough that it’s unlikely to result in yet another ban from Twitch.
