In a rather interesting installment on r/LivestreamFail, Twitch streamer Smokey1981_NL fell asleep in the middle of streaming Valorant. In response to this, a concerned viewer ended up calling the paramedics, causing the streamer to get woken up by police in his house. Given recent swatting incidents, that can't have been a pleasant wake up call.

This situation is rather unique largely because of what happened shortly before and after the actual incident. As if falling asleep while playing Valorant isn't odd enough, the fact that paramedics ended up getting involved in the streamer's nap is bizarre. Ultimately, everyone was fine, and it turned out the streamer was in fact just sleeping.

It seems as though fans thought he blacked out mid stream, as when the paramedics arrived that is what they told him. The streamer reassures them that he had not passed out and was actually just asleep before muting his mic and leaving to talk with the paramedics for a while.

Many fans find a lot of humor in the situation, as after the incident he continued to stream for a full eight hours on Valorant. With a schedule like that, it's no wonder that he fell asleep in the middle of a stream, but there was also a more wholesome side of the story as well. When Smokey1981_NL first came to and found police and paramedics in his house, he was frustrated and angry at the chat for blowing the situation out of proportions, but his mood shifted shortly thereafter.

After a short outburst, Smokey1981_NL has an emotional breakdown where he thanks the chat profusely for caring about his wellbeing. While streaming can often be a thankless line of work as many chats tend to be toxic towards the streamers they enjoy, it is nice to see that streamers also have viewers that are looking out for them as well. While this situation seems like it could have been easily avoided and was blown out of proportion, it also showed the good side of streaming on Twitch in a unique and unexpected way.

Ultimately, the fan that called the paramedics was probably right to do so. It did appear as though the streamer collapsed rather suddenly when he fell asleep, and it's always better to be safe than sorry. More likely than not, Smokey1981_NL will be a little more careful about falling asleep on stream in the future. Hopefully the chat sets a new precedent for Twitch in the future.

Valorant is available now on PC.
