Popular streaming platform Twitch is experiencing an influx of illegitimate chargebacks from users looking to troll streamers. As a result, Twitch is making some changes to its refund policy in order to combat the copious amounts of subscriber refunds.

The existing Twitch refund policy allows viewers to subscribe in order to get some recognition on a stream before refunding within 24-hours with what is known as a chargeback. These Twitch viewers have been able to receive their refunds due to the existing policy but Twitch has now implemented changes that will prevent these types of refunds from taking place. Twitch users can expect to experience the changes should they refund a subscription.

Twitch recently took to Twitter to announce the new changes to the refund policy. The team at Twitch has taken and continues to take feedback from various streamers in order to revamp the refund process in a way that will please the company and the streamers alike. Twitch has assured content creators that this is in an effort to both protect a streamers' revenue and ensure that legitimate refunds are still sent quickly.

For countless months, a portion of the Twitch community has been exploiting the subscription refund policy in order to troll streamers. Unsuspecting streamers often shout these Twitch users out, often reading a chat message from them as the purchase is initially made. Shortly afterward, these nefarious Twitch users have been refunding their subscription through the chargeback system.

Twitch fans that may be concerned about accidentally subscribing to someone and not receiving their refund after these policy changes have nothing to worry about. Subscribers still have the ability to cancel subscriptions within the first 24 hours in case a mistake is made. The biggest change is the addition of a review process that will observe a users' actions on the platform and decide whether or not the refund is necessary.

The new Twitch refund review process will observe how often a user has requested refunds according to their Twitch account history. According to Twitch, viewers who have been found guilty of exploiting the chargeback system may receive a temporary or permanent ban. Subscribers who have no history of exploiting the chargeback system will likely receive their refunds in a timely manner just like before the changes.

Thanks to the existing Twitch refund policy, several streamers have been unable to properly gauge their income if they were impacted by these chargebacks. This refund policy change comes on the heels of the influx of Twitch hate raids, showing that Twitch is trying to fight the viewers who troll streamers. Twitch hasn't mentioned whether or not they are working on other policy changes to combat the trolls.
