Many notable Twitch bans have made headlines in 2020 with the case of Nairoby "Nairo" Quezada being the most recent case. Quezada is known within the competitive Super Smash Bros. community as a veteran champion, however his legacy has changed after admitting to a crime he had committed.

Two months ago, Quezada admitted to having sex with an underage Smash player back in 2017 after allegations against him were made. This led to Quezada being dropped by his sponsor and being banned from multiple tournaments, cutting him off from competitive play.

Despite these allegations being confirmed all the way back in July, Twitch has only just put the proper ban in place. However, this may be due to Quezada not streaming on its site since June of this year with a Super Smash Bros. Ultimate practice stream.

The allegations against Quezada were brought up by Zack "CaptainZack" Lauth where Lauth made a statement about how he had a sexual encounter with Quezada when Lauth was 15 years old and Quezada was 20 back in 2017. While both initially denied this happening to the public a day before, Quezada admitted to the crime shortly after an official statement on the matter. He has since been dropped by NRG Esports.

Quezada isn't the only competitive Smash player to have sexual misconduct allegations brought up against them. One prominent player who has also received an official ban from Twitch is ZeRo, who was banned back in July of this year. Others within the Smash community have also had allegations raised against them, including Cinnamon "Cinnpie" Dunson, who was a commentator for multiple tournaments.

With these allegations coming to light and with proper action being made to strip these people of their platforms, the Smash community as well as the fighting game community as a whole is hopefully starting to get cleaned up. It however does remain a concern about just how many adults within gaming communities have used their status as a method to groom and potentially abuse minors.

Twitch is seeming to be keeping up with these allegations with prolific Let's Player Cryaotic also recently being formally banned from Twitch after the many allegations against him for the grooming of underage girls. While it may be disheartening for many who looked up to these players to see them in this light, it is more important for the truth to come out and not allow abusers to potentially reach other victims.
