Animal streams on Twitch are nothing new, but if anything, it’s surprising that it took the streaming service so long to add a dedicated category for them. Now, however, fans of the critters confined to their devices can find Twitch streams dedicated to these things easier on “Animals, Aquariums, and Zoos.”

As a new category, it’s expected to take a couple of weeks for Animals, Aquariums, and Zoos to find its place in Twitch, especially as it’s not a necessarily gaming-related field. Amouranth has had the most successful stream thus far on the category, and assuming she does more on this new category, her general popularity is likely good for it. Of course, Twitch is home to various IRL streams and non-gaming chats, but for those curious about the new category, here’s what fans need to know.

Twitch’s New Animals, Aquariums, and Zoos Category

twitch animal emotes

Twitch had taken notice of the number of animal-related streams in other IRL categories, such as ASMR, Just Chatting, Travel & Outdoors, and more. Because of this, the company is kickstarting this new category with an added emphasis for this first week on supporting Animal charities, streamers, and the like.

With these streams, while there will obviously be content creators, Twitch is working with zoos, aquariums, and animal non-profits to drive awareness and donations for conservation, restoration, and care-taking purposes. Those organizations interested in taking part can reach out to Twitch directly, but some Twitch is working with currently include Best Friend Animal Society, Hornbeam Wood Hedgehog Sanctuary, Monterey Bay Aquarium, WolfConservationCenter, and more.

Charity streams for these and more are also supported among content creators, but there are some mostly or fully dedicated animal stream channels such as /DashDucks, /TurtlesAndChill, /MarineMammalRescue, /WildLifeCam, and far more. Included with this new category are so animal-based emotes, ranging from turtles to pigeons, as well as a list of curated streams through November 7. For those late to Animal Week, here are those that’ll be available on its final day, November 7.

Twitch’s New Category, Popularity, and Amouranth

As of this writing, the new Twitch category has crudely 8.7K active viewers and 8K followers as of this writing. The two most popular streams currently ongoing are Rooville’s chicken-focused stream with about 3.3K viewers and MarineMammalRescue’s Ocean Sounds ASMR vid about Otters at around 1.1K viewers.

The most popular thus far, however, has proven to be Amouranth’s debut in the category at 8,000 viewers. This no doubt means part of her already dedicated fanbase followed her to the category, yet it’s also far from the first time her videos have featured her ranch, animals, and so on. Amouranth is incredibly popular in other IRL-based streams, such as Just Chatting and ASMR, and so it stands to reason fans will likely see Amouranth here quite a bit.

Given that Amouranth’s stream on the category garnered as many active viewers as the category has followers, hopefully, it proves to “spill” over and be beneficial to other categories as a whole. It should prove to be a strong and non-controversial category for Twitch, which may be something Amouranth could use more of given her general reputation.

Amouranth has been banned from the platform quite a few times, but always manages to avoid the permanent ban hammer. She’s not protected by any Twitch “no ban list” as far as fans are aware and her history proves, but she’s no doubt as influential as anyone else on the platform. Here, hopefully, it’s less about controversy with Amouranth’s streams and more about the animals, which is the category’s entire purpose anyway.

Most streams will focus entirely on the animals, letting fans coo over their outdoor activities, sit back to some relaxing sounds of animals, and so on. There’s certainly and clearly room for more traditional streams too, and while the future of the category is yet to be determined, Amouranth’s popularity may be beneficial for it, assuming she goes live in the category often enough in the future.
