New 'Twisted Metal' Screenshots Show Off Nuke Mode

Twisted Metal may have been delayed until Valentine's Day, but that doesn't mean David Jaffe and the crew at Eat, Sleep, Play are going to stay tight-lipped about their reboot of the iconic car combat franchise, in fact, they've just released three new screenshots from the game's all new Nuke Mode.

It's been a long time since fans have been able to sit down with a game like Twisted Metal. Games in the car combat genre have mostly been non-existent or hardly stellar, but after playing Twisted Metal several times over this year and last, we can say that this is sure to be a nostalgia trip for anyone who played games during the PSOne era.

The below screenshots all come from Twisted Metal's Nuke Mode. the Capture The Flag style gameplay has players try and capture the opposing faction's leader in order to shoot down a giant mechanical structure that represents said leader. The leader in this case is Doll Face, a once beautiful model who had her face ruined and now tries to hide it behind a mask.

The screenshots emphasize the amount of newness Twisted Metal will bring to the series. Couple that with the great gameplay showed off in the E3 Demo and the other week at the PlayStation Holiday preview and it seems like Sony could have another winning exclusive on its hands. The game still has a few months to go until it's ready to ship, but in that time Eat, Sleep, Play is sure to have worked all of the kinks out.

One thing is for sure though: when the game launches early next year it will be the go to game for fans who want something a little different in their gaming diet. With the focus on shooters like Battlefield 3 and Modern Warfare 3 and third-person action games including Batman: Arkham City, Lord of the Rings: War in the North and Assassin's Creed Revelations these next two months, it's nice to know those who aren't fans will have something to look forward to next Valentine's Day.

Twisted Metal releases February 14, 2012 for the PS3.
