Tunic can often be a tricky game to navigate, and one of the most difficult locations to complete is the Dark Tomb, which can be found in the Overworld region. The Dark Tomb is so named because it's pitch black inside, not unlike the Rock Tunnel in the first generation of Pokémon games.
The only way for players to safely make their way through the Dark Tomb is with the assistance of the lantern, a useful trinket that illuminates the area immediately surrounding Tunic. Finding the lantern in Tunic can be a challenge, but it gets easier by breaking the process down into a few simple steps.
Path To The Well
Once they've acquired the shield, players can leave the chamber via a doorway at the top of the stairs to find themselves back out in the Overworld. A small waterfall to the right hides a shortcut that leads back up the fox shrine in the middle of the area, while the path to the left will take players forward. Head around the corner and up the stairs to claim an Attack upgrade claw from the chest at the top.
Cross the wooden bridge up ahead, but be wary of the skull enemies disguising themselves on the ground nearby. Take them out and walk along the path behind the waterfall to reach a large, thin doorway flanked by stone skulls. This is the Dark Tomb, a place players will visit later. For now, keep heading to the left.
Take out the three Rudelings in the next area, including one wielding a shield, and climb the nearby ladders to claim an HP upgrade flower at the top of the cliff. Climb back down and head down to fight two more shield Rudelings before reaching a crumbling bridge.
Across the water is an Autobolt Turret that will quickly kill Tunic if players aren't careful. Lure the nearby Rudeling away from the Turret to take it out quickly, then keep the shield up to block the Turret's shots and slowly navigate the wooden planks leading to the Turret. Once close enough, take the machine out and roll away to avoid the explosion. Open the nearby chest for a small, cash infusion.
Lower the bridge to reach a large, dark pit surrounded by skulls. Claim the guidebook page in front of another shortcut bridge to learn about stat upgrades, resurrection, and how strong Tunic should be before facing the Garden Knight. Lower this second bridge for easy access to the rest of the Overworld, then climb down the ladder into the Well.
The Well
Climb down the first series of ladders into the well and round the corner to find a green octopus enemy called a Slorm. These enemies spin quickly toward Tunic, so keep the shield up to deflect their blows and take them out with a few sword swings. They explode after death, so keep a healthy distance. Head down into the water, take out the other Slorm and the Rudeling, and open the nearby chest for a potion healing upgrade item. A secret chest behind the lower waterfall also holds a healing berry.
Walk up the left to pass through a doorway into the next room, which has a fox shrine in it. There's also a chest on a ledge that's just out of reach. Leave through the doorway on the left and enter another chamber with a Rudeling and Slorm on the other side. Claim the guidebook page on the immediate left, then head to the right to cross the water on a short, stone bridge.
Lure both the Slorm and Rudeling toward Tunic at the same time; if successful, the Rudeling will kill the Slorm with a sword strike, and the ensuing explosion will take out the Rudeling. Leave this room through the doorway behind the Rudeling's original position.
The next room to find a chamber once more filled with shallow water. Take out the two Slorms, then climb the steps to face an Autobolt Turret at the top. This is a much easier fight than the one against the Turret outside, as there's significantly more room to maneuver. Defeat the Turret, then head to the right and down the stone walkway to lower the shortcut bridge back to the other side of the room.
Head back up from the shortcut bridge and past the broken wall into the next room. This room is more of a hallway and is filled with skulls (not enemies) and several Slorms. Take out the front Slorm to use its explosion to defeat two more, then quickly take care of the third one at the very back. Leave through the doorway on the right near the end of the room.
Stay out of the main area of shallow water here, as giant tentacles will come out and smack Tunic for massive damage. Instead, follow the path filled with barrels that hugs the wall. Use the barrels to avoid the Autobolt Turret's attacks, then clear out the Rudelings on the other side. There's also a secret chest in the water below this platform that can be reached by using the hidden stairs on the right.
Go down from the area where the Rudelings were and then back up to the right and pass through the door on the right. Now players are back in the chamber with the guidebook page from earlier, but on the other side. Cross the bridge and head left to push over the shortcut bridge (and save at the fox shrine in the next room, if need be).
The Final Stretch
Head back down from the shortcut bridge and go through the doorway on the right to enter a small room with a ladder leading to a higher level. Climb up the ladder, defeat the three skull enemies guarding a defense upgrade in the chest, then round the corner to find a line of glowing purple runes on the ground. Cross this line of runes to the back of the chamber, clear out the group of skull enemies on the other side, and claim the ice bombs from the chest.
Now head back across the purple rune line and into the next room, which is lit only by the glowing runes on the floor. Follow the runes to exit this chamber and emerge back out in the Overworld. Tunic is now underneath part of the bridge near the entrance to the Well. Cross this small stretch of a bridge to enter the next chamber.
The next room is filled with glowing purple light, and at the center is a tall metallic obelisk with three colored emblems at the top. Resting on the steps at the foot of the obelisk is a small, blue lantern that players can approach and pick up. Doing so adds the lantern to Tunic's arsenal permanently, and activates automatically whenever the player enters a dark space.
Tunic is now available for Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox Game Pass, and PC via Steam and the Microsoft Store.
