Best known currently for their popular mobile game, Fate/Grand Order, Tsukihime was one of TYPE-MOON's original works. Released in December 2000, Tsukihime served as the starting point for TYPE-MOON's numerous franchises. This includes Kara no Kyoukai, released before Tsukihime yet found a resurgence in popularity due to the latter's success. Although the series started on the PC, it is currently unknown if the remake will have a PC release.
Tsukihime -A piece of blue glass moon-, the remake to one of TYPE-MOON's flagship visual novels, is set for a Summer 2021 release via the Sony PlayStation 4 and Nintendo Switch. Long-time fans of the game have awaited this news for over 18 years, ever since the remake was announced back in 2008.
Tsukihime's characters have made appearances in other TYPE-MOON games, including the earlier aforementioned Fate/Grand Order. Fighting game players may also familiar with Melty Blood, a fighting game spin-off of the Tsukihime storyline, including several guest characters from Kara no Kyoukai. The co-existing of multiple franchises within the same universe has been dubbed the "Nasuverse." This fan-nickname was named after TYPE-MOON's lead writer Kinoko Nasu.
The trailer, closing in at around five minutes, showcases the updated artwork as well as the voice talent for each of the main characters. Interestingly enough, the voice actors are all new which should go a long way to providing a fresh take on familiar characters.
When Tsukihime first released in 2000, visual novels mainly had a Japanese fanbase. However, over the past decade, visual novels have been growing in popularity in the west. It's not farfetched to see the Tsukihime remake release outside of Japan officially.
