Secret magic realms and a thrilling adventure story are the core of Netflix's children's animated series Trollhunters. After the show's finale in 2018, the journey continues with Netflix and DreamWorks' new film Trollhunters: Rise of the Titans.

Netflix released an official trailer for Trollhunters: Rise of the Titans early June 15th, teasing fans with the exciting new tale set to stream in late July. The movie pursues animation similar to Disney's Onward and DreamWorks' How To Train Your Dragon, mixed with the incredible action of the Avatar: The Last Airbender animated series.

The original Trollhunters show features teenage boy Jim Lake Jr., who fights to protect his town and the Earth realm from magical menaces after discovering an amulet that gains him access to an enchanting new realm. The trailer for Trollhunters: Rise of the Titans shares a story continuing the universe from the three seasons of the show. After mythological Titans (also called the Arcane Order) threaten to overrun the Earth, it is up to hero Jim Lake Jr. along with aliens, trolls, and robots to engage in "a war between mankind and magic." The power of Jim Lake Jr. with his magical friends and allies creates a powerful amount of strength to give mankind hope in this dreadful war.

Guillermo del Toro has served as visionary director for the original show (having written a novel by the same name in 2015) and returns to the roll for Trollhunters: Rise of the Titans. Trollhunters was originally released as a part of del Toro's Tales of Arcadia trilogy, which also includes the Netflix shows 3Below and Wizards. Following the summation of the trilogy, fans hoped for a return of the popular show. Del Toro, of course, has an incredible reputation in Hollywood, having worked on numerous projects from Pan's Labyrinth to the Hobbit trilogy and much more.

Fans of the original Trollhunters series can expect voice actors Emile Hirsch (Jim Lake Jr.), Lexi Medrano (Claire Nuñez), Charlie Saxton (Toby Domzalski), and Amy Landecker (Barbara Lake) to return for the new movie. There are some new voice actors as well such as Nick Offerman (Parks and Recreation) and Colin O'Donoghue (Once Upon A Time), although the roles these actors will be playing are uncertain at this time. With a blend of the original cast, new cast, and new directors, the movie will certainly offer something new for audiences returning from the show.

The trailer is packed with awe-inspiring fight scenes, inevitable family drama, and a devastating sense of urgency as Jim Lake Jr. and his friends fight to prevent all of human life from being mercilessly destroyed. Trollhunters: Rise of the Titans ensures a promising new adventure for family movie night.

Trollhunters: Rise of the Titans will be released on July 21st, 2021, on Netflix.
