Frozenbyte’s Trine series has offered fans of co-op puzzle platformers great games to play on the Nintendo Switch and other platforms throughout the years, a trend that continued with the release of Trine 4: The Nightmare Prince last year. Now they will soon have more to look forward to, because Frozenbyte and publisher Modus Games have announced that the game is getting a new story-driven DLC campaign titled Trine 4: Melody of Mystery.

According to the two companies’ press release, the add-on will once again cast players in the role of Trine’s three main protagonists, Amadeus the Wizard, Pontius the Knight, and Zoya the Thief. This time around, the story will take them back to the Astral Academy to investigate the enchanted slumber its students have fallen under, while also having to deal with “a suspicious and mistakenly freed spirit on the loose.”

In keeping with previous games, Melody of Mystery will offer Trine 4 players new puzzles to take on across six new fantastical levels. These puzzles will challenge them to make use of upgraded abilities for Amadeus, Pontius, and Zoya as they figure out how to utilize new gameplay elements like sheets of ice, torches, magnets, and crystals.

Trine 4’s warm critical reception means most players will likely be excited to get their hands on the DLC campaign, but, unfortunately, most of them will have to wait a while before they can do so. Although Melody of Mystery is slated to hit consoles in spring 2021, the PC version will get it later this month, which will no doubt be a bummer for longtime fans who’ve stuck with the series on consoles.

Trine 4: The Nightmare Prince is available for PC, PS4, Switch, and Xbox One.
