Within Tribes of Midgard, there are several classes and load-outs to provide players with a truly unique experience and help them to hone in on their preferred style of play. An essential system in Tribes of Midgard is runes. Runes provide special effects and abilities and can be obtained in several different ways, such as slaying enemies and looting rare chests. There are dozens of runes of varying qualities, but only a few shine brightly above the rest. These are some of the best runes in Tribes of Midgard.

7 Ragnarage

The highest tier of runes inside Tribes of Midgard is Legendary. Ragnarage is a Legendary rune that drops from strong enemies or chests with a double-edged sword effect. The base effect increases all damage dealt by twenty percent for the player and nearby characters. However, this buff also applies to enemies in range as well.

For this reason, the Ragnarage rune is somewhat dangerous in late-game play. Players should have a strong build that excels at clearing enemies so they don't get swarmed and overpowered by the rune's extra damage. Using this rune while facing Jotuns is not advised unless players have high resistances.

6 Soul Mate

Soul Mate is an amazing legendary rune for players to equip in early to mid-game when gathering materials is vital for Tribes of Midgard players. Soul Mate buffs the number of souls received when in combat. For every hit landed, players will receive one additional soul as a reward which can lead to a bountiful grind if used correctly.

However, players should be careful as the Soul Mate rune also increases the number of souls lost when hit to four. This rune would work best for ranged and caster builds, focusing on ability usage rather than melee combat. The increase in Souls received would be a significant aid in creating facilities, leveling up shops, and reinforcing the base.

Banner Time is a common rune that can be a great help to players during the early game and while fighting Jotuns in Tribes of Midgard. Banner Time drops a large pool of healing on the ground after a player stands stationary for three seconds. Banner Time shouldn't be used during combat or while fighting multiple enemies, though.

Instead, players are better off triggering Banner Time while scavenging to increase out time before having to return to base to heal when out of potions or when a Jotun fight is getting out of hand. Players can walk away from a battle, activate the rune, and heal to get back in the fight.

4 Pumped Up

Pumped Up is another Legendary mod that can make a big impact for mid and late-game sections while surviving in Tribes of Midgard. Pumped Up provides a twenty-five percent damage boost as long as the player's mana gauge is full.

Any damage boost is a welcomed addition in Tribes of Midgard, it can make a large difference as players move into stronger areas and the enemy types become more dangerous or when on the second world boss where their health has increased. Pumped Up is only a rare rune, so it does not have a detrimental effect to accompany it.

3 Nott For Speed

One of the most taxing experiences in Tribes of Midgard, especially for those playing solo in Tribes of Midgard, is defending the player fort at night. When the moon rises and the Helthings swarm the base, players must go from gate to gate and fend them off or lose the gate door and have to rebuild a new one.

These gates also serve as one of the lines of defense so Helthings can't make it to the Yggdrasil tree. Nott for Speed is a common rune in Tribes of Midgard that boosts the player's speed by twenty percent at night. This extra speed boost can be a defining factor when defending against Helthings, especially during a blood moon.

2 Nothing To Hide

Nothing to Hide is an excellent rune for early-game or for players who like to play fast and loose with their defenses. Nothing to Hide adds a flat one hundred and fifty damage to players who aren't wearing armor in Tribes of Midgard.

While a considerable risk when facing powerful targets, wearing no armor can be detrimental to strategy. However, during early-game, the damage buff will allow players to clear larger enemy camps faster and fend off most enemies while scavenging. In mid-game, the Nothing to Hide rune could be useful when venturing into more challenging areas that apply environmental debuffs.

1 Booming Shield

Booming Shield is a great Rare rune for sentinel class players. This rune provides an offensive attack when an attack is blocked with a shield. When blocking an attack, a wide radius explosion goes off, dealing moderate damage to targets.

This rune would come in handy for a tank or defensive player when clearing enemy camps or invading environments that contain the Unfrozen or Unsunken variants. For a dedicated defensive player who has to focus on soaking up damage or pulling enemies' attention, having an indirect offensive capability helps tremendously.

Tribes of Midgard is available now for PC, PS4, and PS5.
