Just about every major media franchise from the past thirty to forty years has gotten some kind of video game revival. Whether it's Star Wars, Power Rangers, or Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, there's a game for fans of just about anything. Transformers is one such franchise that has gotten its fair share of games over the years, and there are a select few that stand out among the rest. Transformers: War for Cybertron and Fall of Cybertron from High Moon Studios are two games that serve as some of the best in the whole franchise, and it may be time for them to make a resurgence.

Transformers: War for Cybertron and Fall of Cybertron may have released about ten years ago, but they remain some of the strongest Transformers games to ever be released. With that being said, the games have largely fallen out of the public consciousness because they're still stuck on older consoles. It's been quite some time since High Moon's Transformers games wrapped up, and with the Transformers film series still chugging along and the next generation of consoles heating up, it's time that War for Cybertron and Fall of Cybertron got a remaster.

A Tribute To Classic Transformers

As lucrative as the Transformers films have been over the years, many fans have become tired or frustrated with them after a litany of questionable narrative decisions. War for Cybertron and Fall of Cybertron took a very different approach from the films by giving fans an experience that was akin to the classic Transformers cartoons. The Transformer designs were heavily influenced by their Generation One appearances, and the story focused on the titular war on Cybertron that so many fans have wanted to see on a greater scale. Nostalgia is a powerful thing, and the Cybertron games took advantage of every drop they could.

Exciting Transformers Gameplay

One of the biggest places that War for Cybertron and Fall of Cybertron stood out was in its gameplay. Both games were heavily influenced by third-person shooters like Gears of War, but they put a uniquely Transformers spin on things by giving players the option to switch between vehicle and robot form. This mechanic played heavily into both combat and traversal, and with the suite of diverse weapons spread through both games, players had a lot of freedom to approach the game how they wanted. On top of it all, each Autobot and Decepticon in the game had their own special roles and abilities that made them all feel unique.

A Big Next-Gen Opportunity For Transformers

PS5 and Xbox Series X

Gameplay specifics aside, a remaster of Transformers: War for Cybertron and Fall of Cybertron would have an excellent opportunity with the newest generation of consoles. The colorful visuals of each Transformer, along with the explosive action of each game, could look absolutely breathtaking on the graphical hardware of the PS5 or Xbox Series X. Transformers also has yet to get another major game since the early part of the last generation's lifecycle. Bringing two of the franchise's best games to next-gen could be a great way to get fans reacquainted, while simultaneously hooking in those who missed the original release.

The video game industry has been buzzing with news of remasters and remakes lately, with the recent announcement of Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic Remake serving as the newest source of hype. Transformers: War for Cybertron and Fall of Cybertron are to the Transformers franchise what KOTOR is to Star Wars, so it would likely cause a huge stir if those games were given a thorough remaster. There's no news of it officially happening, but Transformers fans can certainly hope for the best.
