The war for Cybertron continues as Netflix has dropped the trailer for Transformers: War for Cybertron - Earthrise. It's the second chapter of the Transformers: War for Cybertron trilogy, and, no big surprise, the Transformers are heading to Earth. Before they get there, they must face the perils of extinction.
In the trailer, the Decepticons face a dying Cybertron and the Autobots are on a desperate mission not for victory but for survival. With the destruction of the life-giving Allspark, it is only a matter of time before the Transformers become extinct. With the future of the Transformers at stake, Optimus Prime must work with a mysterious group of Transformers, known as the Mercenaries.
The first chapter in the Transformers: War for Cybertron trilogy aired this past summer on Netflix as Transformers: War for Cybertron -Siege. Animated by Polygon Pictures and produced by Rooster Teeth, Siege garnered praise for its visual spectacle and deep story, though it was criticized for its voice work, with several legendary actors being omitted from their titular roles. Coinciding with the release of Transformers: War for Cybertron came the announcement of a new series of Transformers toys at the Hasbro Digital Event, which includes the return of the celebrated Beast Wars.
With the announcement of a Beast Wars movie in January and the continuation of the Transformers: War for Cybertron trilogy on Netflix, it's clear that Hasbro is determined to resurrect the Transformers franchise on the television front, especially after the success of the Bay-verse Transformers movies. Having seen Transformers: War for Cybertron - Siege, there is great potential for where the series goes, especially as the series will see the return of the Beast Wars. However, it remains disappointing that no one at Netflix bothered to give Peter Cullen, Garry Chalk, or Frank Welker a call to return to their roles as they became the voices of a generation.
