In our review we stated that Transformers: War for Cybertron was one of the best franchise titles you’ll ever play – mainly because of High Moon Studios’ dedication to balancing fan service with great gameplay.

Starting on Tuesday, July 27th War for Cybertron fans will be able to download the title’s first DLC pack – adding five new multiplayer characters as well as new maps for the Escalation and Competitive Multiplayer modes.

Anyone following the War for Cybertron pre-release coverage will probably remember the pre-order exclusive characters – Shockwave, Demolisher, and Jazz. After the game’s release, unused pre-order codes reached epic prices on eBay – in some cases peaking above the $100 mark.

Today, Activision has revealed that players with a bit more patience will be given access to the three aforementioned pre-order bonus characters as well as Autobot Scattershot and Deception Onslaught in the forthcoming DLC – War for Cybertron “Map and Character Pack.”

The five new playable characters will be available in escalation – and there chassis will also be added to the multiplayer character builder.

In addition to the characters, the pack also adds two new escalation maps, “District” and “Forsaken” as well as two new multiplayer maps, “Havok” and “Fortress.”

No official pricing details have been released but it’s safe to say the pack will cost less than $100 (probably around $10, considering Activision is involved). If you’re one of the players who payed a premium price for one of the pre-order characters – you should be kicking yourself. Activision, more than any other publisher, is known for milking players via DLC for more money post release.

That said, the pre-order bonuses were advertised as “Exclusive” – so the confusion is understandable. Still, it’s hard to imagine why anyone would have paid such high prices for the pre-order characters.
