This week, Activision were busy discussing finances, while announcing a $51 million dollar profit for Q3, and gave us a brief teaser as to where some of that money is being spent. Activision CEO Eric Hirshberg stated that there will be new Transformers, Spider-Man and X-Men titles, along with another title in the Hero series released sometime in 2011.

There were no further details released, however here's what Mr Hirshberg had to say:

"In addition to Call of Duty in 2011 we will have new release from our other proven franchises including the Hero brand, Spider-Man, X-Men and Transformers, which will be supported by what is expected to be another major blockbuster movie from Michael Bay."

It is rather interesting that he mentioned Transformers will be 'supported' by the new film by Michael Bay, does it mean it will be a movie game tie-in? Or will it be a stand alone title like the successful War for Cybertron? There was a different feel to War for Cybertron, it was dark shooter in which you got to play as Autobots and Decepticons in two opposing campaigns. Importantly, the game was set in space which took fans into a brand new environment and allowed for the darker mood throughout the game.

The Spider-Man game could potentially be a sequel to Shattered Dimensions, but perhaps with a new, er, dimension. In all seriousness we are likely to see extensions of the current types of universe, and perhaps one or two new worlds thrown in, along with new villains to take down. Furthermore, it would be great to see a more in-depth narrative in the next iteration as it left a little to be desired in Shattered Dimensions.

X-Men: Destiny was announced at the New York Comic Con back in October, a title that is still mysterious, with not much more then a trailer released thus far. What we can surmise from the trailer is that there will be perhaps three new mutants that you can play as, or maybe you will have to choose one. Fans of the comic will be excited to hear that Mike Carey, writer of the X-Men: Legacy series of comics is on the writing team for this one. According to the press release, it seems there could be many paths in this game, and it makes sense with the game title that it will be ultimately you who will choose your 'Destiny'. Here's what Activision had to say back at the press release in London in October.

"The all-new original video game casts players as new mutant recruits in a rich, branching storyline that features a deep element of choice and gives players ultimate control of their destiny,"

What we will see from a new Hero title remains to be seen. MTV Games has come out fighting with Rock Band 3, sporting a massive tracklist as well as a keyboard peripheral. Perhaps a new Hero title will be along those lines, or with the emergence of motion gaming in the later part of 2010 they could be working on something completely new.

Activision trademarked 'Dance Hero' back in 2008 so its about time that they did something with the name, and now camera's are being utilised on the PS3 and Xbox it makes sense that we could see such a game coming out in the not too distant future.

What would you like to see from Activision next year? Movie tie-ins for Transformers, Spider-Man and X-Men or brand new titles? Fancy being a Dance Hero? Let us know!
