The first Transformers: Rise of the Beasts trailer has been released by Paramount Pictures, with Optimus Primal delivering a dire warning for Optimus Prime as war ensues between the Maximals, the Predacons, and the Terrorcons.

Transformers: Rise of the Beasts is the seventh installment of Paramount's live-action film series based on the Hasbro toy line. This time, the Transformers live-action film franchise will take inspiration from the Beast Wars storyline, which, in simplest terms, revolves around robots in disguise that transform into animals as opposed to vehicles.

The first Transformers: Rise of the Beasts trailer opens with a confrontation between Ron Perlman's Optimus Primal and Optimus Prime in the jungle. When Prime raises his cannon at Primal, who is in his ape form, the latter tells Prime that he is not the one to fear, warning of an impending darkness' arrival. Viewers are then treated to action shots featuring familiar favorites like Bumblebee and newcomers such as Anthony Ramos as the human protagonist, Noah. Afterward, Primal warns Prime that of all the threats he's faced, past and future, the coming danger is unlike anything he's dealt with before. Undaunted, Prime says, "let them come."

Transformers 7 is the second installment of the live-action film series without Michael Bay as director. This time, Steven Caple Jr. will sit in the director's chair, with Creed 2 and The Land being his only two feature film directing credits until now. Multiple writer's names have been attached to the project, but Caple Jr. was reportedly brought on board to direct the screenplay by Joby Harold, whose previous writing credits include King Arthur: Legend of the Sword and Zack Snyder's Army of the Dead.

Bay's Transformers films were not well received by critics, but they were successful at the box office. On the other hand, director Travis Knight's Bumblebee prequel was more successful with critics but underperformed financially compared to its processors. Audiences clearly prefer a new direction for the franchise but may not necessarily show up at the theaters to support it, so it will be interesting to see how Caple Jr.'s entry in the Transformers film series fares with audiences and at the box office.

Transformers Rise of the Beasts is scheduled to be released in theaters on June 9, 2023.
