Transformers Fall of Cybertron Trailer BTS

Activision and developer High Moon Studios got it right in 2010 when they released to nothing-to-do-with-Earth-or-humans Transformers: War For Cybertron, a game that earned praise from critics and fans alike. They got it oh so very wrong the following year with the rushed and ugly movie tie-in Transformers: Dark of the Moon, but we're going to ignore that as we look forward to Transformers: Fall of Cybertron, one of Game Rant's most anticipated games of 2012.

Although Activision confirmed War for Cybertron would get a sequel from the get-go, it wasn't until last fall when we got our first look at the game (and Grimlock, leader of the Dinobots) through the Transformers: Fall of Cybertron teaser trailer. Today, High Moon Studios is sharing the first full, official trailer for Fall of Cybertron where our own planet is teased.

The trailer showcases a more varied color theme and aesthetic, larger environments, more vehicles and... dubstep. We also get a brief look at what may be the Ark, the Autobot spaceship which brought the Transformers to earth in the first place and the ship that was featured in last year's Transformers: Dark of the Moon film.

The game looks exciting, fresh and fun, and by all accounts, the developers seem to be listening to the feedback and adding features we wanted from the first game. In addition to bots that can combine (Bruticus!) and health regeneration, Fall of Cybertron includes customization options that let players customize parts of their character from the torso outwards, along with purchasable equipment and weapons (that fire faster).

According to Activision, Fall of Cybertron is more of a natural successor than a sequel, and our only major gripe so far is that the game's campaign has no co-op unlike its predecessor. In its wake, there are supposed to be a lot more multiplayer features but we've yet to see what yet. Hopefully, some form of co-op horde mode - it's what all the cool kids are doing (see: Gears of War, Mass Effect, Ghost Recon, etc.).

Transformers: Fall of Cybertron releases August 28, 2012 on the PS3 and Xbox 360.
