'Transformers: Fall of Cybertron' Pre-Order Bonus Unlocks Retro Optimus

Activision and High Moon Studios are giving gamers' childhoods a serious kick in the pants with their recently unveiled pre-order bonuses for Transformers: Fall of Cybertron. Anyone who purchases the highly anticipated War for Cybertron follow-up from GameStop will net themselves a G1 Optimus Prime skin, and two weapons inspired by G1 Shockwave and Megatron.

As expected, this G1 version of Optimus features the iconic red and blue Peterbilt truck, not the more alien-looking truck that has been all over the trailers. While we might not see High Moon take their franchise to Earth just yet, we can at least get a small taste for that aesthetic through this pre-order unlockable.

Even more exciting than the chance to play as Optimus Prime in his retro duds, is the trailer that has accompanied this announcement. It features Stan Bush's 'The Touch,' a well-known song to any fans of the Transformers: Movie, the animated one not the Shia Labeouf vehicle.

How exactly can you pick up what is being called the 'G1 Retro Pack'? It's pretty simple, just pre-order Transformers: Fall of Cybertron before August 20th, the day before the game properly releases. After that you'll be able to cruise around as Retro Optimus, calling down airstrikes from Metroplex, and just being an all around badass.

There's no word on if other retailers will be carrying Retro packs for other characters, but our guess is that Optimus' design was the easiest to alter. If High Moon had taken, say, Megatron and tried to turn him into a collapsible gun. That would have been both awesome and probably a major headache to develop.

Regardless of special pre-order bonuses, Fall of Cybertron is looking pretty great with its varied campaign and intriguing new playable Transformer characters. And now there's yet another reason to pick up the game.

Will you be pre-ordering Transformers: Fall of Cybertron in order to unlock the G1 Optimus skin? What other classic looks would you like to see in the game?
