Transformers: War for Cybertron was one of our favorite titles in 2010 (read our review). Of course, High Moon Studios followed-up the inspired "Robots in Disguise" experience with a lackluster Dark of the Moon movie-tie in (read our review), likely due to pressure from parent company Activision; however, the developer is now in the final stages of prepping a proper sequel, Transformers: Fall of Cybertron - set for release at the end of August.

The High Moon Studios team is clearly proud of the upcoming game, releasing one revealing trailer and featurette after another - focusing on fan-favorite characters that include the Dinobots and even the city-sized Autobot, Metroplex. That said, campaign play is only half of the Fall of Cybertron experience - with both competitive and co-op multiplayer also included - and, to get players excited for the title's online offerings, High Moon has released an all-new multiplayer trailer (and screenshots) that show off all ten game maps as well as the robust customization options featured this round.

Reaction to War for Cybertron multiplayer was mixed at the time of release - with some players finding a lot of enjoyment in the online arena (as well as the game's co-op "Horde" mode - Escalation). Of course, limited customization options and game types kept both the co-op and competitive multiplayer modes from bringing War for Cybertron players back on a regular basis.

Still, the thought of flying into a room as an aerial bot, transforming mid-air, and hovering around the battlefield just long enough to head-shot a couple of opponent players - before transforming back into a jet and escaping across the map still sounds fun, right? Fortunately, this time High Moon is including a much more robust set of customization options - as well as a retooled class system for players to explore. Customization isn't just limited to the look of a player-created character - as Fall of Cybertron also includes a much richer set of weaponry and perk options.

Considering the developers and Activision are expected to throw a lot of support behind the game's multiplayer offering - it's extremely likely that we'll also be seeing plenty of post-launch DLC for the game. As mentioned, the prior two Transformers games also featured multiplayer - and, subsequently, add-on skin packs featuring additional competitive players.

While nothing is confirmed at this point, the game's various Fall of Cybertron pre-order bonuses hint at the possibility of, at the very least, additional character designs and weapon load outs - not to mention (though unconfirmed) even more maps for co-op and competitive game modes. Players who order from GameStop (as teased in the trailer) will receive a G1 Optimus Prime skin as well as exclusive weaponry (such as the Megatron Gun) and fans who order from Amazon will snag a G2 Bruticus combiner color swap. These pre-order bonuses are, very likely, only the tip of a multi-faceted post-launch DLC campaign.
