Transformers Game Dark Moon Screenshots Box Art

It may not be getting the same amount on mainstream buzz as other major titles, there are plenty of reasons to keep an eye on Transformers: Dark of the Moon. Not because the film of the same name is going to be driving the summer movie season before long, but because the development studio behind the movie tie-in has already proven they know how to turn the toy franchise into a quality title. But some new additions have been made to Dark of the Moon, and the newly released screenshots for the game prove it.

With Transformers: War for Cybertron flying under the radar of many gamers, High Moon Studios proved that the third-person robot combat genre was a perfect fit. With Dark of the Moon, High Moon is taking the familiar gameplay and adding a new dimension. The latest trailer showed off Stealth Mode, giving players a middle ground between the Transformers' vehicle and combat modes.

It goes without saying that being able to maneuver as quickly as a car with the weaponry of an advanced alien race would result in some intense action. But when you take that potential, and combine it with the over the top animation and character styles of the Transformers fiction, you get all new levels of insanity.

Whether you played through War for Cybertron or are just a fan of the motion pictures, take a look at the heroes and villains of the Transformers mythology doing what they do best, fighting to the death:

Dark of the Moon won't be following the typical standard of merely imitating the plot of the film, instead giving players a look into the events between the Autobots and Decepticons that lead to the climactic battles of the motion picture. While there are likely large portions of the movie's fans who merely enjoy the spectacle of robots fighting hand to hand, those who have grown fond of the characters would do well to try out Dark of the Moon.

Players can enjoy intuitive and satisfying destruction by crafting their very own Transformer, complete with a fully customizable selection of weapons. And while High Moon won't be developing the Wii, DS, and 3DS versions of the game, Xbox 360 and PS3 owners should expect as entertaining an experience as War for Cybertron.

If you missed out on War For Cybertron, will you be more likely to give Dark of the Moon a shot? Or is this year already too full of blockbusters to take a chance on a smaller scale property? Let us know in the comments.

Transformers: Dark of the Moon will be released across the Xbox 360, PS3, Wii, DS and 3DS on June 14.
