Transformers: Rise of the Beasts is currently filming, which means fans may catch a behind-the-scenes glimpse at Optimus Prime's G1 redesign while the Paramount movie is filming in Brooklyn. Transformers 7 will be a follow-up to the 2018 Bumblebee film, which was the Transformers series' best-received entry from a critical perspective.

Transformers: Rise of the Beasts' plot is not known as of yet but it's expected to be based on the Beast Wars animated series, which debuted in 1996. Beast Wars follows the events of the war between the Autobots/Decepticons, but this time it revolves around the descendants of these two species: the Maximals, who come from the Autobots, and Predacons, who come from the Decepticons. These two factions were fighting as they crash-landed on a mysterious and different planet, and they continued to wage war while trying to figure a way to return home.

It's unclear how accurate Transformers 7 will portray this story but expect it to set up a new group of movies that will propel the movie franchise further in its storyline, as it appears Bumblebee really caused a lot of change on the creative side. Many fans were starting to grow tired of the Transformers film franchise and started to miss the iconic cartoons from their childhood. Now it seems that Paramount trying to make up for the lost time by further fleshing out the story into something that can be enjoyed by fans and critics alike. If nothing else, the set photos and videos from Transformers 7 indicate the creative team behind the film is hoping to bring the classic G1 designs of the robots to the live-action film franchise.

Transformers 7 was definitely overdue for a reboot, as the plot continued to be bogged down by repetition and ended up becoming a film franchise that was only visually appealing as well as explosive. Now it seems Paramount is aiming to make the plot stand head and shoulders above the visuals, as that's where it matters most. Beast Wars was loved during its time and received a Daytime Emmy Award for its animation, so the plot needs to fill the shoes of its predecessor.

It's too early to tell if Transformers 7 will delve into the descendent species, but if it does then fans can expect another sequel film to follow this up. Transformers 7 will hopefully answer the question of whether the franchise should continue down the live-action route or return to its animated format, as both the games and shows have been known for doing very well in their field.

Regardless, it's nice to see fans' childhood on the big screen. The Transformers 7 release date was revealed a while back, but as of now they're still filming so take it with a grain of salt, as these films require a great deal of CGI and special effects.

Transformers: Rise of the Beasts is currently scheduled to be released in theaters on June 24, 2022.
