NICKMERCS is one of the most popular streamers on Twitch. Over the past few months, he has started playing a lot of Apex Legends due to problems with hackers in Call of Duty: Warzone. Recently, the Twitch star decided to host a $50,000 Apex Legends tournament. With a host like NICKMERCS and a large prize pool, this tournament attracted many top players in the Apex Legends community. However, the absence of a streamer known as Trainwrecks left some confused.

During a stream on November 1, NICKMERCS revealed why Trainwrecks wasn’t in the tournament. According to the content creator, his management received a call from EA saying that the company didn’t want the Twitch streamer Trainwrecks involved in the tournament. In addition, NICKMERCS told his audience that he assumed the reason for EA not wanting Trainwrecks to participate in the event was due to his history with gambling streams.

Being left out of the NICKMERCS $50,000 tournament didn’t sit well with the content creator. Only a few hours later, Trainwrecks responded to the situation claiming that EA had contacted him. In a message on his Twitter account, the content creator confirmed what NICKMERCS had suspected: EA wouldn’t let Trainwrecks enter the NICKMERCS $50,000 tournament because of his gambling streams.

Trainwrecks quickly fired back on Twitter, expressing his frustration over the situation. In the tweet by the streamer, he accused EA of corrupt practices. During the tirade, the streamer noted that EA once paid him $150,000 to play Apex Legends for 4 hours.

Besides claiming that EA paid him thousands of dollars to play Apex Legends, Trainwrecks criticized how the company handled previous situations involving microtransactions and accused it of “virtue signaling.” He cited the FIFA series and its controversial history with microtransactions as an example. He believed that it was hypocritical that the company had banned him for gambling reasons, as he thought the company endorsed this idea through its business practices. In addition, Trainwrecks claimed that he would've hosted the tournament for NICKMERCS and doubled the prize pool.

Despite this unfortunate situation involving Trainwrecks, the NICKMERCS Apex Legends tournament attracted a number of top streamers and professional players. Taking home the first place prize was team TSM FTX composed of pro players Sni3down, Imperial Hal, and Reps. Furthermore, NICKMERCS, the host of the tournament, finished in 8th place.

This news surrounding the NICKMERCS $50,000 tournament comes as a new season has just started in Apex Legends. This new seasonal content, known as Escape, includes a tropical map called Storm Point, along with Ash, the newest Legend in the game. Furthermore, the update introduces a new weapon, the C.A.R. SMG.

Apex Legends is available now for PC, PS4, Switch, and Xbox One.
