The Legend of Heroes: Trails of Cold Steel 4 is the finale to the Trails of Cold Steel saga of games developed by Nihon Falcom and published by NIS America. Though Trails of Cold Steel 4 is available now on PS4 in the West, NIS America also announced the game will be making its way to both Nintendo Switch and PC sometime in 2021.
Now, it seems like players have a solid date for when these versions will release, thanks to some early promotional materials associated with the game in Japan. It appears that both versions of The Legend of Heroes: Trails of Cold Steel 4 will release on April 9, 2021, five months after the game first arrived for Western audiences.
This information comes by way of freelance writer and games insider Hansuke12 on Twitter, who was able to find two sources confirming the release date. The first comes by way of NIS America itself in a Twitch chat. The second source is from a screenshot of promotional material for Trails of Cold Steel 4 shown during the New Game+ Expo. NIS America only announced that Trails of Cold Steel 4 was coming to Switch at the beginning of this year. Seeing as Trails of Cold Steel 3 was the first entry in the series to make its way onto a Nintendo platform, it makes sense that the sequel would follow suit.
This is great news for players who have been waiting to play the final entry in the Trails of Cold Steel saga on their platform of choice, as they won't have to wait much longer to see the saga conclude. For those unfamiliar with The Legend of Heroes, it is a series of JRPG titles which follow an overarching story spanning three separate arcs across different times and countries. Though Trails of Cold Steel 4 concludes the Cold Steel arc, there is a new Trails JRPG set to follow it that will tie up loose ends and set up the start of the second half of The Legend of Heroes storyline, meaning there's still plenty more to come.
The Legend of Heroes: Trails of Cold Steel 4 is available now on PS4. It will release April 9, 2021 for PC and Switch.
