The legendary Malanya, the god of horses, makes his return in The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, offering his aid to players that truly care for the horses of the world. Players wishing to strengthen or even revive their equine allies should seek out Malanya in the far northeastern corner of Hyrule. Players will first hear the name Malanya at one of the many stables across Hyrule. When lodging at the stables, the owner will offer Link the option of either a regular bed or the Malanya Bed, the finest bed the inn has to offer. In addition to waking up full of energy, it is said that Malanya will occasionally visit the dreams of guests that stay in the Malanya Bed and share with them a mystical message.

The first time players stay in the special bed, Malanya's words will come to them and describe how they may find him. Subsequent stays in the Malanya Bed will offer other messages from the horse god, such as how to find the Great Fairy Fountains.

Players can find Malanya at his aptly named Malanya Spring in Tears of the Kingdom just north of Bloodleaf Lake in northeastern Akkala. The spring is situated in a narrow valley between the Akkala Ancient Tech Lab and Tumlea Heights.

The quickest way for players to reach the spring is to fast travel to Jochi-iu Shrine located up the hill from the nearby East Akkala Stable.

Players should follow the road from the stable to Bloodleaf Lake and continue north until they see the spring. It is a large spiky plant putting out puffs of fairy dust similar to the closed Great Fairy Fountains.

When players interact with the plant, a mysterious hungry voice will call out for food. Specifically, the voice will ask for a single Endura Carrot. Players may occasionally find these around the edges of Great Fairy Fountains near the peak of Satori Mountain. Additionally, players are able to receive the carrots from stables as a reward for Pony Points.

After giving the hand of the voice the desired carrot, the spring will open up revealing the majestic horse god, Malanya.

At any point after activating the spring, players can return to Malanya to request an increase to their horse's stats or even bring a previous horse back from the dead.

Malanya is able to upgrade the stats of players' horses in exchange for food. Players can choose to increase the strength, speed, stamina, or pull for any steed the player has registered at a stable except for a few special horses like Epona or the giant horses.

Each upgrade requires offering several meals to Malanya as shown above and will increase the stat by one star each time.

How to Revive Horses in Tears of the Kingdom

No matter their method of death, Malanya is able to revive one of Link's horses that have died in exchange for a Roasted Endura Carrot. The only limitation to this power is that the horse must have been registered at a stable prior to death. Tamed horses that die before being registered will unfortunately not be eligible for revival.

When a fallen horse is selected, Malanya will comment on the way they died and jokingly threaten Link based on the circumstances. The horse will be revived next to the spring just as it was before meeting its end. There appears to be no limit on the amount of times a player can revive a horse beyond having the necessary offering.

The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom is available for the Nintendo Switch.
