Greek mythological heroes Diomedes and Ajax are coming to one of the best strategy games of 2020, Total War Saga: Troy, in the form of DLC later this month.

Creative Assembly's Total War spin-off set in the Bronze Age of Ancient Greece and the surrounding Aegean lands came out in August of last year. It was also released for free on the Epic Game Store, which led to Total War Saga: Troy being downloaded over 7 million times in the mere 24 hours it was free.

This new Faction Pack DLC will feature the two aforementioned heroes and their factions, 18 new units, new Paragon units, new epic missions, 4 new faction mechanics, and more. The DLC will also coincide with a free update that adds Hephaestus, God of Blacksmiths as well as the Divine Craftsman Epic Agent who will bolster units each turn with equipment that will boost their attack and armor.

The trailer includes footage of both heroes from Homer’s Iliad and their abilities. Ajax comes with his faction of Salamis which rely on slow but very heavily equipped defensive infantry to hold the line, while his powerful missile units take advantage of protected positions. Ajax’s Paragon units have area-of-affect buffing abilities.

Diomedes on the other hand is the king of Argos with units that include more well-rounded infantry and “quick flanking units able to ambush their foes from surprising locations.” Diomedes cunning allows him to create any Paragon units he wants by applying a set of buffs to any regular unit from his roster.

This DLC is the follow-up to the Blood & Glory DLC which released in October, and as is custom with Total War games, adds customizable blood and violence to the game. Before that was the Amazon Faction Pack DLC, which included queen Hippolyta and her sister Penthesilea as heroes. The Amazon DLC was also free for a short time but is no longer.

The Ajax and Diomedes Faction Pack DLC will release on January 28 for $9.99, exclusively on the Epic Games Store. The Epic Games Store exclusivity is for one year, meaning the game and all of its DLC will be available on Steam this August.
