Tormented Souls will still very much torture and stress players when the game releases later this year, but it will do so on different platforms than initially anticipated. When Tormented Souls was first revealed late last summer, the game was planned to release on the PS4, Xbox One, PC, and Nintendo Switch. Those plans have very much been rearranged.

Tormented Souls is a classic horror game inspired by the likes of Resident Evil, Silent Hill, and Alone in the Dark. The modern take on the fixed camera perspective spooky title is to be published by PQube and developed by Dual Effect and Abstract Digital Works. With the game being announced in mid-2020, perhaps the writing could have been on the wall that the game should have/could have been a next-gen title. That is now the case with the publisher's/developers' newest announcement.

Tormented Souls will no longer release on the PS4 or Xbox One. This, of course, is unfortunate news for anyone who was looking forward to playing the game on those set of consoles. The install base for those systems is much larger, but it appears that the focus will now be on the more powerful horsepower that the newer consoles provide. That being said, Tormented Souls will still release on the Nintendo Switch. Nintendo's hybrid console is, of course, not as powerful as the next-gen consoles of Sony and Microsoft. However, Nintendo has had record-breaking success with the Switch, so it makes sense to release the game on the Switch (and it is also still the current-gen console for Nintendo).

The announcement to can the PS4 and Xbox One versions of the game also come with the official reveal that a PS5 and Xbox Series X|S version is in development. This is exciting as Dual Effect has specifically mentioned that the haptic feedback feature on the DualSense controller could transcend horror games. The developer will now have the opportunity to showcase what exactly it means with that statement. Along with the rest of the information on the game, it was reiterated the PC version of Tormented Souls is still intact.

There is a lot to unpack with all of the news of Tormented Souls, which could be one of the more intriguing horror games of the year. Along with the PS4 and Xbox One versions of the game being canceled, the Switch and PC versions of the game remaining, and the PS5 and Xbox Series X|S versions of the game being announced, Tormented Souls will also have a physical release; but only for some versions of the game. The PS5 and Switch versions of Tormented Souls will receive a physical release. Meanwhile, all the versions of the game will be available digitally.

Tormented Souls will release on Switch, PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC later this year.
