Torchlight 3's announcement surprised many as it was announced off the back of quasi-MMO Torchlight Frontiers early this year. Now Echtra Inc., headed by Diablo and Torchlight creator Max Schafer, has another surprise for ARPG fans. Torchlight 3 is available now in Early Access on PC.
Torchlight 3 publisher Perfect World actually pulled the trigger early on launching the game's Early Access. Fans noticed the game go live about 45 minutes early. Its since been announced via today's PC Gaming Show 2020 event. Max Schafer even provided a short interview in which he talked about the game's story and gameplay.
Where Torchlight Frontiers made some fans of the franchise nervous about its faith for what came before, Torchlight 3 will put those worries to rest. The game picks up a century after the end of Torchlight 2 and the Ember Empire is now in decline. The Netherim is attacking and adventurers are once more needed in this dire moment.
As previously announced, Torchlight 3 will have a unique Fort feature that will allow players to create their own custom base. Not only will players progress and level like most typical ARPGs, but they'll also progress by building up their Fort as they adventure. Forts will also prove an important place for making sure a player's armor and weapons are in great condition.
Early Access for Torchlight 3 will last "at least a few months," with the full release including the game's complete Act 3, as well as a new end game experience. Those who don't want to wait can check out Torchlight 3 on Steam right now for $29.99
