Regardless of which game is your favorite, it's hard to deny that every game in the Fable series has a great cast of characters, some of which are voiced by big-name actors. From characters that continuously help you throughout the story to those that only show up for a little while but make a memorable appearance, the different NPCs in Fable are part of what makes the series so amazing.

Here's a list of all the best characters in the Fable series, from those that are alright to those that shine above the rest. Also, warning for potential spoilers ahead.

10 Lucien Fairfax (Fable 2)

At the beginning of Fable 2, it's explained that Lucien wants to rebuild The Spire that is supposed to be able to give anyone a single wish. He wants to use a wish to bring back his recently deceased wife and daughter, so at least his wish wasn't world domination or something... until it was.

He grew mad as he tried to rebuild The Spire and eventually decided that he would rather change the world into his image of a perfect place with no death rather than bring back his family. To some people, that might sound like an appealing world, but not when he was willing to use kidnapped people as slaves to achieve this wish.

9 Jack Of Blades (Fable)

For some Fable fans, Jack of Blades is their favorite villain in the series, and it's easy to see why.

Jack is responsible for Theresa losing her eyes. Then, throughout the game, Jack controls people that the Hero felt he could trust, like Maze, kills the Hero's mother, and puts the Hero in terrible positions like making the Hero decide whether he kills his friend Whisper or even his own sister.  His boss fights aren't all that great though, which keeps him from having a higher spot on this list.

8 Ben Finn (Fable 3)

Fans of Simon Pegg are sure to recognize Ben's voice in Fable 3. As a character, Ben tends to bring some comic relief, but he still knows when to take a situation seriously.

When the Hero, Walter, and Ben get separated in Aurora, Ben gets help and gets a search party to go out and find the Hero and Walter. They're found just in time before they potentially parish in the desert, and Ben is there to comfort the Hero and Walter when they wake up. He's also not afraid of a fight and joins the Hero on the front lines during the final battle against the Darkness at the end of the main campaign.

7 Jasper (Fable 3)

Jasper may make comments about the player's questionable outfit choices, or constantly remind players about how there are new items in the Sanctuary Shop, but he's still a very loyal friend to the Hero who watches over the Sanctuary.

Jasper has some funny voice lines throughout the game, including him trying not to say anything rude about the player's chicken suit or trying to hide his fear while traveling underground near the beginning of the game. It's always good to know that you'll see a friendly face when going back to the Sanctuary while hearing that classic John Cleese sass.

6 Page (Fable 3)

Page is one of the best leaders in Fable 3 as she starts organizing the Bowerstone Resistance before the Hero even thought of starting a revolution against Logan. After Logan is kicked off the throne, Page still doesn't stop fighting to make sure that the lives of those in Albion improve, especially in Bowerstone.

She shows up frequently to make a case for why the Hero should turn factories into schools, keep Bower Lake, and even fix Bowerstone Old Quarter so it can be used by people in Albion. She's an extremely morally good person, and that also helps the Hero to gain good morality points when siding with her.

5 Sir Walter Beck (Fable 3)

Just like Jasper, Walter is a loyal friend to the Hero throughout the entire game. While his story does have a tragic ending, no matter what choices the player makes, he's still a guiding force for the Hero the whole time that he's around.

While other characters may turn on the Hero based on their morality, especially when the Hero becomes the King or Queen, Walter understands what's at stake since he faced the Darkness with the Hero, so he knows that the Hero might do "bad" things just to try and save as many people in Albion as possible.

4 The Hero Of Bower Lake (Fable 2)

Sparrow

Also known as the Hero of Bowerstone, the main character of Fable 2 is somewhat similar to the hero of the first Fable game. They both grew up after the tragedy of losing their families, they both lost loved ones because of the actions of the main antagonist after they grew up, and they both had to work hard to learn how to control their new abilities.

Plus, they both don't talk much, so their actions speak louder than words. Depending on the player's choices, the Hero of Bower Lake can make some big decisions that either hurt or help countless people across Albion, making them a well-known figure around town, but they don't have as much personality sometimes as the first Hero.

3 Theresa (Fable, Fable 2, Fable 3, Fable: The Journey)

Theresa has been in every single Fable game since the series began, and yet there is still so much mystery surrounding her. It's shown in the first game that she's the sister of the Hero of Oakvale, but it's sometimes difficult to know whose side she's on as the series continues.

Some people believe that she has ulterior motives than just helping the Hero out of the goodness of her heart. She tends to be very cryptic and seems to tell the Hero the minimum amount of information that they need. Still, she does show that she has a good side, like when she takes care of the Hero of Bower Lake after they lose their sister.

2 The Hero Of Oakvale (Fable)

The Hero of Oakvale in Fable

Though this Hero has extraordinary abilities, he still has very human emotions that the player can sympathize with throughout the story. After all, he did watch his town get attacked, he thought his whole family died, and he had to go to a strange place with the strange man named Maze while he was still grieving.

He finds his own inner strength, and still manages to overcome hard times when extremely emotional things happen, like when Jack of Blades kills his mother. He can either be extremely good or extremely evil depending on the player's choices, but there's plenty of things that happen in the rest of the series that suggest he's canonically good.

1 The Dog (Fable 2)

This is a no-brainer, as this dog is the best boy to ever appear in the series. He's lovable, he can do tricks, he's always happy to play fetch with the Hero, and he's very useful when it comes to finding treasure and dig spots.

He's even good in a fight and can damage and distract enemies to help the Hero feel like they have a sidekick during a battle. The dog doesn't have a name, but players can put a collar on him and give him whatever name they want, making even more of an emotional connection with this dog. Of course, that can come back to bite players when they are face to face with Lucian. When Lucian tries to shoot the player, the dog jumps in the way and is killed by Lucian to save the player. It's a very emotional and tragic moment, but the dog can come back to life if players choose to use a wish to bring him back or from Knothole Island.
