Recently, Nintendo confirmed via Gamespot that the original Super Smash Bros. would be releasing for the Wii's virtual console in time for the holiday season. This has gotten the Game Rant team thinking about the fun we had with the newest game in the series and the 35 characters that we have enjoyed the company of in Brawl. But there was always something that we wanted more of from the Smash series, that being more characters!

There certainly wasn't a lack of fighters in Brawl, but even Marvel vs. Capcom 2 had a roster of 56, and when compared to Brawl's 35 it seems a little deflated. So, being the creative minds that we are at Game Rant, I'll be creating our list of top 5 characters we feel should have made the cut in Brawl, and no, the list will not include Master Chief, Spider-Man, Goku, or other characters who will never be in a Smash game.

Starting in reverse order:

5. Little Mac

Little-Mac-Pose

Okay, so Little Mac was in Brawl but he was an assist trophy that looked like an updated old school Little Mac. He certainly wasn't his cool cell shaded self! Little Mac would be a very cool character in Brawl, brought on by the fact that the only other cell-shaded character in the game is Toon Link.

Not only would he stand out from the rest of the roster, but the way his move set would be incorporated with his character would be pretty cool. Little Mac would utilize his fists as his main weapon, upper cuts, and flurries of punches would all be incorporated. Little Mac's entrance on to the battlefield could even be him jogging after "Doc" Louise on his bike!

4. Mewtwo

mewtwo-Pokemongo

Mewtwo was a great addition to Melee, and back when Brawl was first announced, I couldn't wait to get my hands on the psychic power house. Alas, it was not meant to be as Nintendo felt the need to whore out his spot on the roster to advertise Pokemon Diamond/Pearl with Lucario.

Mewtwo was not only strong, but intelligent. He embodies the evil of man and represented a villain for the Pokemon series, and Smash Bros. certainly is lacking in the bad guy department. He is the last Pokemon you fight in Pokemon Red/Blue/Yellow/Leaf green/Fire red, and out of all the characters that were removed from Melee in the transition to Brawl (Pichu, Roy, Dr. Mario), Mewtwo seemed like the least likely character to get the axe, so it came as a surprise when he did.

3. King K.Rool

King K rool smash

The king of all Kremlings, King K.Rool is one mean crocodile-human hybrid thingy. King K.Rool has appeared in every Donkey Kong Country and is Donkey Kong's archenemy. K.Rool would be a perfect fit for the world of Smash Bros. and he can be another heavy character with a fairly interesting set of moves.

King K.Rool is the meanest of the mean in the Donkey Kong series, always stealing Donkey Kong's hard fought-for bananas and putting DK and his crew in barrels that can only be opened when whipped against a wall or the ground. The Donkey Kong series needs at least one more character representing them in Smash Bros., and K.Rool certainly fits the bill.

2. Ridley

Ridley smash bros

Although Ridley did appear in Brawl as a boss, it was a real shame that he wasn't playable. The biggest argument against Ridley being a playable character in Smash Bros. is that he is too large, but they re-sized Pikachu and Kirby because they were too small, and Bowser certainly looks larger in Mario Galaxy then he appears in Brawl, so why the heck wouldn't they be able to re-size Ridley?

Metroid only has one rep in Brawl and Ridley (being Samus Aran's long time rival) seems like a perfect character to add to the game. Ridley is an interesting character in and of himself because he is not just some crazy randomly reoccurring dragon, he is actually the intelligent leader of a band of space pirates.

1. Geno

Geno Smash Brows

For those who never played Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars on the SNES, Geno is a puppet possessed by a celestial creature that was sent from star road to stop the Smithy Gang from taking over all of the Mushroom Kingdom. Geno possesses magical powers and can launch and then reattach his arms... pretty cool moveset potential there...

He has gained a cult following since his debut and was heavily rumored to appear in Brawl, but of course he didn't or he wouldn't be in this article. Geno would be a very interesting character addition, especially since ownership of the character is Square Enix's, but he has only ever appeared in Nintendo games. Here is hoping we see more Geno in some form or another in not just the Smash series, but other games to come!

That is Game Rant's Top 5 Characters that should have been in Brawl. Of course these are just our top 5 and not everybody will agree with them, and we wish we could have squeezed even more in. Overall, Smash Bros. Brawl is a great game, and if it had these characters it could have been even greater!

What do you think of our list? Who would be in your top 5?
