Tony Hawk: SHRED Lets Players Go Big!

Tony Hawk SHRED Lets Players Go Big

The big news this time around is that super-sized skateboarding is not the only game in town anymore. This iteration of the game now features 100% more snowboarding. That’s right, in addition to playing as pro skaters Tony Hawk, Lyn-z Adams Hawkins, Corey Duffel, David Gonzales, Stevie Williams and Chaz Ortiz, you can now play as snowboarders Travis Rice, Louie Vito and Olympic Gold Medalist Torah Bright. No, the Flying Tomato won’t be making an appearance here, he’s got his own game.

Tony Hawk himself explained the inclusion of snowboarding in his new title:

“I’m also excited about including snowboarding in SHRED, because when we originally came up with the board motion-controller, we didn’t just have skateboarding in mind, and it’s nice to finally see that idea coming to fruition.”

The board motion-controller was a brilliant idea, and a unique take on the franchise. However, it was a little awkward to use. On the flip side, I like that SHRED will allow players to access their respective avatars on both the 360 and Wii versions of the game. Also, I know that all of these new motion-controllers are designed to get people off of the couch. Well, I like my couch. Of course, I’m not the target audience here. One thing is for sure, on first glance the game certainly looks cool. Check out the screen shots below:

Talk about some big cajones, these guys have their work cut out for them. It’s not enough for Tony Hawk and Activision to compete against the behometh Skate franchise, now they are going after the Shaun White Snowboarding games as well. Huh, good luck with that. At any rate, let’s hope that SHRED is better than the slightly underwhelming Tony Hawk: Ride.

So, Ranters, what do you think of the upcoming Tony Hawk: SHRED? Will this game revitalize the franchise, or will it go the way of the dinosaurs?

Tony Hawk: SHRED is in parallel development by two different studios: Robomodo for the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3; and by Buzz Monkey for the Wii. The game is rated “E” for everyone, and will be available at retail this holiday season.
