The early Tony Hawk Pro Skater games remain some of the most beloved skating games years after their releases. Although none of the Tony Hawk games were included on the PlayStation Classic, their following holds to this day and a rumor suggests that Tony Hawk Pro Skater and Tony Hawk Pro Skater 2 may currently be in development.

According to Twitter user Sabi, who is a journalist and leaker previously sent a cease and desist by Nintendo, Activision may be working on remakes for Tony Hawk Pro Skater and Tony Hawk Pro Skater 2. In a tweet clarifying something they had sent out on their server, Sabi explained that there have been internal demos of remakes Tony Hawk Pro Skater and Tony Hawk Pro Skater 2 circulating around the publisher.

Sabi's tweet can be seen below:

"An Activision contact told me a week or so ago about how Tony Hawk Pro Skater 1 and 2 had demos/prototypes remade," Sabi tweeted. "They went around internally. I didn't share before as I wasn't sure if they were being remade as full games, or just a test."

Sabi added to this Twitter thread about the possibility of Tony Hawk Pro Skater remakes. They said that no one "seems to know if both games are being fully remade, or if it's just a test for something else."

After the buggy debacle that was Tony Hawk Pro Skater 5 in 2015, the series will need to come back in a big way if it's going to continue on. As Sabi indicated, the demos of Tony Hawk Pro Skater 1 and 2 may simply be tests for something else, such as a new engine or other larger project. However, the series may be rejuvenated with remakes of the first two games in the series, which would be bolstered by fan nostalgia and a desire for a comeback of the skating genre.

The skateboarding genre, altogether, has disappeared in the last few years. Although EA has renewed their trademark for the Skate franchise, there is no major skateboarding game to be in development. A new Tony Hawk game would completely change the equation and may, in fact, inspire others, such as EA, to start developing skateboarding games after what has essentially been their years-long absence from the industry.

Given Activision's known dedication to more remakes of classic games, this rumor carries a bit more weight too. From its long catalog of games, Activision would be fairly remiss to not remake what are considered the first best games of the skateboarding genre.

There is no known Tony Hawk Pro Skater iteration in development.
